I've had lots of sports cars over the years, but never something like an Atom...
Have contemplated a Super 7, and I know owners often do roadtrips throughout europe, but never seen Atoms on long roadtrips...

What's it like to own one? Ever taken it on a trash around Europe for a week or so? How do you do it?

What's reliability like?

Thanks

Simon

The Atom is simply incredible. It is quite different to a 7, with much more cockpit room a different chassis balance and an overall different "feel".

The AAOC (Ariel Atom Owners Club) did a eupopean run not long ago, with over 20 cars doing a strop around europe, so yes, they do get toured in. I'm considering driving to Le Mans in mine this year too.... it is doable ;-)

Reliability is generally bullet proof. The Honda drivetrain and well chosen components see to that. You hardly ever hear about them going wrong and if there is an issue, the factory are brilliant.

Oh and they are one of the slowest depreciating cars out there, which is also nice wink

Thanks Mark...
So how do you pack luggage?

Luggage can be hung from the chassis tubes under the dash panel / nose cone section, pushed under the seat (thin stuff) or put in the front boot (although that's quite small). The general rule of thumb tho', is to pack light!

couldn't you hang a couple of big motorbike panniers off the side upper chassis rails?

Thanks Mark wink
Would you happen to have some pictures of how that's done?

I drove mine to Morocco 3,000 miles in just over 2 weeks. I've also done Milau and a couple of trips to Spa and some of the Euro trip. The car is great for touring just don't plan to do more than 300 miles a day.

I actually took to much stuff to Morocco. Remember you have to take everything out of the car every night so the less you take the less you have to lug in and out of hotels.

Great pictures John !
But it looks like it's not really possible to pack for 2 people for a week or so?

We took the guys on the Eurotrip last year.

there were between 12 and 15 atoms on most of the week long tour and at one point 25(i think) at the Atomium)

We had a supprt truck to carry luggage, spares tools etc (although most of the spares went unused...they were ultra reliable)

those that had 2 in the car used the truck to acarry luggage
those who were 1 up used the passenger seat!

Some people have attached motorcycle panniers to the frame which could give space for two. Also depending on how tall you are there can be loads of room behind the seat.

Ben (Taken mine to Monte Carlo and the Alps two up in the Monte Carlo case but a flying in / out based passenger rotation system limited the luggage required)

Here's some shots of an Atom taking part in the Cannonball 8000 a couple of years ago with the luggage for two people strapped on the side.

Proper panniers would probably look neater.

Good to see some innovative thinking there smile
Might have to look into a more solid solution such as those panniers smile

Mean green wink Havent seen too many here but spoke to a chap who had it on show at an event earlier this year. Was not the supercharged version but I am sure it would give me massive grin factor. I must hunt him down I think he was keen to tag along to some of the Lotus meets smile

That'll probably be Wisp then.

You could ask him for a ride over on the AAOC site if you haven't got any contact details as I'm sure he'd be more than happy to take you out for a spin.
