Saw my first Atom on the road last night. A22 at about 8:40pm heading towards Godstone. I was in the Black Exige S. Your car looks like sooooooo much fun. (I wish I had a garage)

Good evening! I thought i'd let you know that it was me on the A22 in the Atom, and my hair is only now returning to its former self.We took it down to the festival of speed via the A24.It's an amazing piece of kit and I'm relieved to have made the right choice;anyone considering a Caterham should remember that it's essentially an old car for people who like beards. If you are thinking of buying an atom, you can hire one(which is how I made the decision purchase a shiny red one)from www.funcarhire.com.If you live within the M25 delivery is free.Incidentially I don't work for them but I will expect some royalties along the way.Buy an atom and never look back!!

It's funny, I was concerned that I would struggle to live with an Exige due to the lack of creature comforts and sound proofing but it has increased my appetite for something even more extreme. The Atom looks extremely appealing from what I have read and seen on TV but I am without a garage at the moment. Seeing yours that evening almost had me putting the house on the market the following day (girlfriend stopped me!).

Is your Atom just kept under a cover then?

Yup, lovingly covered with the factory made cover each night.

I've often thought that a custom-made rigid-cover that looks just like the shape of a Mondeo or Vectra or similar would be a good idea for cars like this...it would be soooo tempting to lift the corner of that to see what on earth is under it.

Just DO IT.

I've just got an Exise S2 for the Autumn/Winter whilst waiting for my next Atom.

Whilst the Exige is fantastic(and may actually be faster on the road for most people), the Atom is much more of an experience - more akin to a motorbike. Every input of throttle/steering/power is at least 10x more pronounced on dynamics than the Exige. Requires greater vehicle control, but ultimately more exciting and rewarding.

reading this is causing me to change my mind...

im in the market for a weekend car... my shortlist so far is...

Lotus Exige Cup 255
Caterham CSR 260
Radical SR8
Ariel Atom 300

I havn't got much further than work out my budget (£35k) and stare longingly into the empty space in my garage.

Requirements are simple...

I want to be scared!

Get an Exige/Elise S1 and stick an Audi 330bhp engine in it and then prepare to be shocked. Even my 189bhp R1 feels only mildy shocking in comparison. wink
