Hello,

Posted on here before umming and erring as to whether to purchase an Atom for tracking.

Can anyone advise me how a 220 copes with lots of tracking. Specifically to engine and clutch wear through high revving and fast gear changing. What does a new clutch cost for example, and how long should an engine last for this type of use? Looking at probably 15 odd trackdays a year.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hello!

How does it cope with lots of track use? Ummm ...that's pretty much what they were designed for, so the answer is, pretty well!

I've just dropped a brand spanking new one on the track at Cadwell, literally only 14 hours after the factory had finished building it, and it ran all day without any problems whatsoever - and it wasn't hanging around either.

The car weighs so little that you shouldn't have any bother for a long time - the Honda engine is a given, and the gearbox will depend on whether you bother using the clutch or not! As for replacements - best thing is to give the factory a call (01460 78817). The owners club is a good source of info too - www.atomclub.com

15 trackdays a year should be easy meat for an Atom. I've had my Mk2 220 for about 9 months and have done about that many trackdays and it's yet to disappoint me. I've got through a set of soft tyres and an oil change and that's about it.

My previous Mk1 165 I had for almost 4 years and that was still on the original brakes and pads when I changed. And it only got through one set of tyres in all that time. Lightness is the key.

And the fact that I drive like a granny!

I've often wondered whether tracking does cause additional wear.

I guess that in theory it must - more forces surely = more wear?

Probably the only way we'd ever know is to buy two, use one for track day and give the other to the wife!!!
