OWNERS CLUB LAUNCHES NEW FORUM
Discussion
Since 2001, the forum for the Ariel Atom has been hosted brilliantly by PistonHeads, and has become a hugely valuable resource to owners, potenial buyers, enthusiasts and the mildly curious.
Looking back on some of the earliest posts, it seems that nothing much has changed – back then, there were issues with the fuel gauge (and fuel starvation on tight left handers, too); questions about specifications – especially wheels and tyres; what clothing; which upgrades; cunning tax breaks; the relative merits of using an Atom in town, on country roads and on track; and of course, the great Caterham vs. Atom debate.
Several times over the years we have debated whether or not to stay with PH and the decision has always been made to ‘stick with it’.
However, the owners’ club has recently come to the realisation that the knowledge base on the forum is far too valuable an asset to leave exclusively in the hands of any third party. The course of action we've therefore taken is to set up our own forum immediately. It's already set up and ready for you to log onto right now: http://forum.atomclub.com/
The aim of this new forum is not to replace the whole of PistonHeads. We all enjoy visiting it and I’m sure will continue to do so. Other owners clubs, such as the Caterham owners with Blatchat, seem to manage quite well with their own dedicated formum as well as PH.
The new Atomclub forum is more technically advanced, however, and offers lots of goodies. I shalln’t go into them here, but if you’ve ever visted any forum other than PH, you’ll be instantly familiar with it. Vist and play and you’ll soon see how much more you can do on the new forum.
The new forum also takes account of the international nature of the ownership of the car. There are areas with dedicated regions and languages and it’s an ideal place to meet the relative distributors, dealers and in the case of the USA, the manufacturer.
There’s a clubroom which will replace our e-mailing list, which is exclusively for the use of club members and will contain material not for public consumption. There’s a registered users’ area for those who have registered with the site to exchange views, too.
The calendar currently on the club site will probably be replaced by the one on the forum, too – we’ll have to see how that goes… As you can tell, we’re able to adapt and change using our own website in a way that just isn’t possible currently. Any comments or suggestions will of course be most welcome.
We’ll still be back to PH for General Gassing, the Pie and Piston, Events, and all the other great threads there, and of course to minister to waifs and strays who’d rather post on PH…
It’s not goodbye PH, it’s hello AAOC Forum! See you there…

Having been on the new Atom forum since August I'm beginning to feel we may have isolated ourselves from the motoring world of Pistonheads.
Whilst the new forum is undoubtedly quick and offers some advantages, Pistonheads offers something to the whole motoring fraternity.
It was often the case that other PHers would post to the Atom forum.
PH by it's nature of being open to all who have an interest in motoring has accumulated a wealth of resource.
Having been discouraged from posting links to the PH resources when topical, seems to isolate us even further.
I wonder what others feel?

I come back to PH regularly and continue posting here. There's room on my PC for more than one forum! If it's Atom related, I think the archive here is fantastic, and the new forum is excellent. Side by side, like the keys on my piano keyboard (as someone once said)...
Not a day goes by when I don't at the very least lurk on general gassing, the pie and piston and many more...
I'm sure that other PHers interested in Atoms will look both here and on the other forum in the same way that the owners of other marques do the same...
