Just for information of other in the Atomic clan!

Skype is a very good system allowing one computer user to communicate with another computer user, either one to one or in a conference much like on the telephone.

It's very good and I gather many Atom owners are already using it.

The program is free from www.skype.com One would need at least a microphone and speakers compatible with a computer or I would recommend a headset.

Just a tip for those who try to install Skype, at one point during the installation Skype suggests that it looks at your computer address book to check for other Skype users, I'd be inclined NOT to allow this.

My Skype ID is atomfun and anyone is welcome to add me to their list.

I tried Skype for the first time last night in a chat with John and Bruce and was amazed how far the quality of voip had come since my MS netmeeting days some years ago.

Also like the cost of calls, free (my favourite price !)

My username is benyeats (funnily enough also my real name)

Cheers

Take the space out of the middle of my PH username and you have my skype name! I love it - calls to NZ, Oz, US, France - even Manchester - all free!

The headset thing is definitely the best option - and they start at around £7.00 from Maplin!

There's no such thing as a free lunch you either pay upfront for a service or through increased costs for products that are advertised on the website or in about a year when they start charging as they get enough subscribers onto the system.

You cynic you.

Where I think they aim to make money is internet to landline calls which carry a charge. Internet to internet calls are free and can remain so as it the service can't cost a lot to run.

It is not necessarily a new thing, MS netmeeting has offered a similar free service for years (I was using it for video calls in 1996) but Skype is far more user friendly and less 'clunky' hence has caught on in a big way.

Skype for communicating from one PC to another will remain free for many years to come.

They do hope you'll be tempted to use some of their other services which need to be paid for.

I'm not sure Skype is supported for use where you live.

I suggest you check out the Skype website for areas/countries of use.
