Anyone been reading the "which corners faster an atom or a seven" thread.
Thought it might be amusing to get the other side of the argument over here.
My tuppence worth is in a like for like situation, same power, weight, tyres etc an optimally set up seven would be more forgiving on the limit than the equivalent atom allowing mere mortals to extract the performance nearly as well as stigs.

If that is the Dan Malk I think it is once again you aren't fast enough. Not often I will get the chance to say that.
If it's not the Dan I know please accept my apologies for being so rude.

I think John L Sullivan would take Mike Tyson to pieces and that Fangio would show Schumacher a clean pair of heels...

...Sorry - I thought this was another of those 'Who'd win if the Silver Surfer fought Desperate Dan?' type discussions

The answer as always is, it bloody depends, doesn't it... Which 7? Which Atom? What level of driver skill? What type of driving conditions? Is any side impact crash testing involved? (Sorry, low blow there...)

I can't comment on this personaly as I don't fit into a 7 (not even the fat-boys one). That, I think, makes the Atom the winner from my perspective...

Bruce, which is why when I posted I said the same driver ability in each car and optimum set up.
I have now added that it should be similar power cars just to really clarify it all.

Ah, yes, but same driver ability is moot - a novice might find the 7 easier, a more experienced driver could get more out of an Atom or vice versa. And in the wet or dry could make a difference too - see the problem?

So, apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?

Verifiable times, or should I be sending off a letter to the IOC saying "my mate is a dead fast runner, can he have a gold medal please" ?

No idea, but pass me the keys to both and I'll report back.

IMO and I'm no expert driver (which in itself is a potentially important point of view), for a similar priced Atom compared to a Caterham, the Atom is more drivable, balanced and controllable at the limits.

I can't say I'm gripped with excitement by this one, but if anyone wants to work out the answer to a rather arcane theoretical question, which takes out all the variables Bruce et al have pointed out (ie tyres, set up, driver and so on), the calculation is pretty simple. You need:
- track, front and rear, avaraged
- height of centre of gravity with a driver in situ
- assume the CofG is central (which it probably isn't)
All the rest of the dynamic stuff can be ignored, since you can dial it out on both cars by set up if all you want is max steady state cornering capability.

Calculate the angle between the CofG, the outer edge of the tyre and the ground.

Lowest angle wins.

Exciting isn't it? No, I don't care what the answer is. I don't want a Caterham anyway.
