I spoke to my usual car finance company about an Atom yesterday. They were not prepared to lend on it because they considered it to be a "Kit Car".

Simon at Ariel prepared a letter for me refuting the kit car issue but they still would not do it.

Has anybody else had similar problems and if so, who did you use in the end?

Simon says a number of his customers have been successful with Lombard.

I seem to remember that I financed my very first Atom through Lombard Business Leasing. That was when I was hoping to put it through the company...

Alternatively, an Atom looks very like a fitted kitchen or a conservatory... at least it does to a bank...

Seriously, I think that British Gas will finance as will Tesco...

Yeeees! I see what you mean! I suppose its ok as long as your Bank Manager never comes to your house, which mine does!!!

Her indoors doesn't know about the Atom yet, either!

Don't worry we didn't get where we are today without being able to sort these little matters out!!!

Have you tried M&S Finance they even do a deferred payment, like a ballon but you own the car and they don't care about mileage

Thanks. I will look into it. I am selling 1140 acres of land at auction in August.

Hopefully there will be some small change left over and will not need to finance anyway but you never know how the dice will fall!

Thanks John,

I have a number of irons in the fire at the moment. I will give your chap a call. The Atom is certainly causing a few finance companies to scratch their collective heads!

It would probably pay Ariel to offer financing like most other manufacturers and dealers do. If Westfield and Caterham can do it, Ariel certainly can and they would earn a few bob in commission as well. The only thing that is delaying me from putting a deposit down is the time it is taking to sort the back end of the deal out! Otherwise, I would have put my money down last week when I was at the factory. I am sure they would close more deals if they could factor some finance.

David,
the factory is aware of TCA, cos they know each other through my purchase, so a little shocked to hear they are not using/forwarding TCA's details! especially knowing that they can sort it without any letters about 'kit cars' or any other crap like that!

Simon probably needs reminding, as he certainly didn't mention any alternatives in the event that my usual people weren't prepared to do it.
