Question for you owners out there:

Me and my brother are considering buying an Ariel Atom in the next 6 months, had a look at a few insurance websites but obviously this isn't your average motor. My question is where can insurance be obtained and for how much?

We have various combinations of no claims / ages we could use depending on the insurer.

Can you get road insurance for these??

Thanks for your help.

The owners' club has a deal with adrian flux which includes road mileage and unlimited trackdays - talk to their kit car division (sorry about that). You need to be a member of the owners' club to get it, though. Other insurers are available.

Cheers for the info Bruce, will give them a try.

Also I know that there are different varients on the Atom but can't seem to find any info.

I think its something like the mk1 is a rover engine and the mkII a Honda 2.0 l engine with optional supercharger?

Mk1 was a Rover K series and came as stock as 118bhp and in 165bhp and 190bhp variants (Powertrain Projects Stage 1 and Stage 2)

Mk2 is a Honda K20 (like the Civic Type R) and comes in 160bhp, 220bhp, 245 bhp, 275bhp and 300bhp depending on which ECU and whether it's supercharged.

They're all brilliant at corners - it's just a matter of how fast you want to come out of them...

The Mk1s are slower than the Mk2s ...but I wouldn't say they're "way too slow". A 118bhp Mk1 is as quick as a Caterham R300 round Cadwell (with an instructor driving the R300).

Best link for info is probably the club site: www.atomclub.com
