I've been talking to them about the possibility of offering a discount to club members on these:-

http://www.race-technology.com/WebPage2/Products/DL1/DL1Home.html

I'm thinking of getting one myself to log data from trackdays (note that you're not allowed to refer to the data on the trackday itself otherwise you're in violation of the trackday rules).

Apparently there are some Atom owners already using these - anyone here? If so, I'd be interested to know how you found them.

Would anyone be interested in something like this? If so, let me know. If we can get 6 purchasers together we could get a discount and then establish a permanent discount for club members on further purchases.

Would be pretty cool to be able to compare lap data post trackday. From reading up on them and looking at the software they use, they look pretty good to me.

Cheers, Ross.

PLEASE don't use dataloggers at trackdays.

The insurance company (there's only one underwriter that now takes on the risk of trackdays) that insures track day operators insists that there is no timing whatsoever of any kind at a trackday. Failure to comply means that the day is uninsured - and that includes anyone who has trackday insurance - and the operator could lose their licence and their livelihood. If anyone is caught using even a stopwatch, they'll almost certainly be sent home and could be blacklisted by the ADTO - so no trackdays at all after that for the offender!

Test days, however are a different kettle of fish. You can time and all sorts at a test day. They tend to be a little more expensive and you need a race licence to attend one. But if you're thinking about datalogging, you should probably consider a race licence anyway!

I don't think this is the case Bruce - at least for EasyTrack anyhow.

No different to strapping a video camera on your car and then taking lap times from the footage at the end of the day.

The key thing is that the data isn't referenced during the day.

Followed the link and Tony R is not correct (and doesn't work for Easytrack afaik)

I don't want to alert them by asking the question directly. I've heard their briefings (and all other trackday organisers) and all I was doing was repeating what they say.

I've only attended one track day and that was at the Llandow circuit. The day was hosted by Motor Sports Events (or similar, can't remember).

In the briefing we were left in no doubt that anyone seen 'timing' by whatever means, stop watch, data recorders, mobile phone etc etc would receive an instant ban from the event and all future events.

I was very impressed with the briefing and being my first event was somewhat put at ease when it was emphasised the day was about 'you and your car' and not in anyway competitive.

I have to say that I was surprised when Tony said that on the Easytrack forums - as far as I'm aware Tony does work for Easytrack, but I may well be wrong.

Anyhow, I'll check with Easytrack myself - I won't buy the stuff unless I'm able to use it to get some lap data on trackdays.

I'd rather know for definite either way from the TDO themselves.

Looking at ET's FAQ though, I'll be amazed if what Tony's said is correct - I suspect what you've said is correct Bruce.

Okay, official word from EasyTrack is:-

"Data loggers if used for timing purposes aren't allowed"

Tony does work with EasyTrack and I guess perhaps shouldn't have posted what he did.

I guess if you're just using it to see how fast you are at certain points on the circuit, or how much G your car will pull round certain corners then I guess you'd have a case....

But absolutely, definitely no timing allowed!
