Has anyone tried any technics to reduce inlet temperatures. On my (and i presume all) Atom they are VERY high. I need to get more cold air into the throttle body and supercharger. The air intake is not giving the car enough cool air. As Jackson don't make an intercooler and at the moment i don't want to use Nitros i wondered if anyone has any ideas? I'm just about to experiment with different lenghts of pipe coming straight off the throttle body and onto a K+N type filter, this would mean the original air intake will just be for show, but i'm positive temps will go down and bhp will go up! Any ideas?

Aquamist!

Not sure if there's the place in the system to fit it but it will decrease the inlet temp by some way.

I've not had a chance to have a good look at the Honda engine with the Jackson S/Charger in place but what you really need to do is get some cooling inbetween it and the inlet.Intercooloer, Charge Cooler or the like.

I think things are pretty tight!!!!

Whats with the Atom 320?

Thanks Julian,
water injection is one of the things i'm looking into, thanks for the link.
320 bhp(in Ariels eyes) = 650 inj
Larger crank pulley
Re-map
Gave me an extra 20bhp
Do you have or are you getting a supercharged Atom?

Water injection is the last solution to use, first one is an intercooler Air/Air or Air/Water, like, for example the Exige 240 R.
I already have made a modification on my first Atom 200 with a direct "Venair silicone" straight tube to a conical KN type air filter on the left side of the car. I don't know if Air temp goes down , ... but it can't go up !
BUT noise is much much nicer (no "intake" noise but engine noise).
So, to my opinion :
. Intercooler and different Air filter : YES
. Water injection : perhaps, but after the modifications above ...

JP, thanks very much, do you have any pics of the air intake method you used? Next week i'm trying lengths of piping straight from the throttle body to a k+n,i'll do power runs on a dyno and see what the result is, i think that's similar to what you've done! I've been told the pipe distance is very important. Any more info welcome.

Hi Fast,

We have a 300 on Order that is due this Friday! Hopefully it will get here in time for the trackday on Saturday.

Did you have a before and after figue when you had the mods done? I'd be a little worried if the mods only made 20 bhp increase.

Not worried about the increase as any extra is good, but these mods would normally yeld more power which makes me think that the inlet temp is rising limiting the increase.

I understand that the Jackson S/Charger bolts directly to a manifold, what you need small sandwich plate with 4 mini coolers the go up/inside the manifold in the air flow linked to a chargecooler.....

Someone must be able to do it, then you could go for more boost!!!!

Yes, i have pics of my modification and from the Lotus engine.
Make me a mail to jpburguet@free.fr and i'll send them to you. I think i have written somewhere the exact length and diameter i used, i'll send it to you to.
The length is important, but not so much, when you are in atmospheric admission (generally the shorter it is the best it is), but it has absolutely no importance with a supercharger/compressor (the acoustic phenomen is stopped into the supercharger).
The interest of my modification is that there is perhaps the possibility to use the original air intake to cool the intercooler, if there is enought place to put on the top of the engine.
The other possibility is to "guide" the air to the engine air/admission intake collector to cool it a little bit...

you can have a look to automotive.eaton.com, supercharger, why supercharger. it seems that there is an intercooler option.

monza, surely it would have to be a Jackson intercooler?

These people will make you a intercooler or a charge cooler for any application.

I've had two intercoolers made by them (one for a Diesel 4x4 and one for a Nissan GTi-R) both where very well made and very competative for one off applications.

I think they would be able to build in a Chargecooler core into the Jackson Manifold with a water to air cooler attached.

All alloy so shouldn't add a shed load of weight to the car.

give them a call.
