Who else is going? Can anyone recommend a local hotel for the Thursday night or is anyone else staying local on that night.

I'm driving across & back same day from Halifax. Sorry, don't really know the area to recommend hotels.

I should be going ...but again, I'll be driving over on the day.

I wouldn't worry about picking somewhere to stay ...its up north ...no-where will be very nice

I come from Grimsby ...so my views on that part of the world are tainted somewhat!!

Only joking - there should be plenty of decent places to stay - you could even travel up early the day before and spend the day in Skeggy!

Cadwell was great fun - and here's a few photos of John Lloyd's car:

...and a few photos of my "Atom replacement" vehicle ...the series of photos at the end showing how to get a 30-year old 2-tonne lump of metal round the old hairpin!

Andy,

Just looked at the photos, I almost look like I know what I was doing in some of them. Cadwell is the best UK track I have been on so far. At first I was not happy, too twisty, too hilly, but it is a great challenge and teaches you a lot about cornering and right gear for the bends. Loved it by the end of the day and would recommend it to anyone.

Just to give you the details. I set off for Cadwell on Thursday drove about 200 miles to hotel in Horncastle. Evening drove to Skegness 50 miles. Friday 100 miles round Cadwell at the end of the day drove to Bridgend 300 miles. Saturday about 80 miles around Llandow. A great track as it is basically an oval so rather than concentrate on getting round the track you can work on cornering, braking and gear selection. Too knackered to drive home that night so instead stayed at John's house (datasafe) and stayed up until 2.30am. So much for an early night to rest and recover. Sunday Bridgend to Haslemere 200 miles. Just under 1000 miles in 4 days. Fantastic!!

Hello Chaps

Reporting in after my 'interesting' day at Cadwell!
Here's some pics (not great scans though).
I'm the one NOT behind the steering wheel...

Then THIS happened!

Buggery F*ck.

After only a few laps too! The good news is that it's nothing more serious than a new nose and a rear strut. I'm less suicidal now I know it's not too bad.
Thanks John and Andy for your moral support and to Andy's Dad who knows a thing or two about motors.

The lesson to be learnt here is this: Do not, however tempted, be a numpty like me and let you best mate drive your Atom when he has no previous track experience. I'll be back on the road in a week or two, depending on how quickly Ariel can supply me the parts. The guys from Big Thunder will check it over once I'm mobile again.

They'd have been deported by now if they were any uglier than me!

Quite simply, the Triumph is a faster, nimbler, better handling car than the Atom...

In stark contrast to me!! Was beginning to think I was putting a jinx on Atoms ...mine was still at the garage recovering from the Nurburgring, and my old Atom then got crashed in front of me!! Good news that its a simple fix - it didn't look too serious. Also got mine back today ...Rover finally delivered the cooling pipe and now she's running as sweetly as ever! Ready to give Bruce another thrashing when he gets back from his dirty weekend away...

Daz at Big Thunder is fantastic with Atoms, so it should be sorted in no time!

Mike,

Glad to read everything seems straight forward it didn't look too bad on the day. Just a pain you couldn't get the strut off and straightened on the suspension arm at the track. It wasn't for want of trying!!

So at what time on Friday evening did this happen?

Yeh but, no but, they've got wheels and it was on a slop and I'm sure it rolled towards me.

Hmmm....they are kinda big john (I know I should'nt throw stones, but at least I wasn't driving when I hhad my little incident)!

Actually I'm suprised that Andy and his dad didn't stick an engine in the Biffa bin and take to the track with it!

I was rather hoping you'd offer to lend us the Honda engine out of your Atom ...but as no such offer was forthcoming, we went home disappointed, still none the wiser as to what the ultimate pace of a Biffa bin round Cadwell would be...

Really John. That's your story and you're sticking to it? I don't like to accuse people of telling fibs, but the camera never lies My Lloyd...
