Hello,
after selling my Beloved Vaxhaul VX220 im looking to persue more fun on 4 wheels..

im looking at the TVR Tamora and the Atom,, i know theres a big difference... but i need some help on questions..

What is the insurance group?
do people use it as a every day car?
what happens if it rains? (except getting wet)
Do i have to wear a helmet when i drive it?

Thanks very much for any help

No idea of the insurance group, see other posts for typical costs.

I use it quite a lot but not every day, my commute is down country roads so it is a lot of fun. I don't take it if it looks like it might rain....

Having said that I drove down to Sparkford for the Haynes track day on Friday in thunder and lightning and the Atom did not miss a beat, the main problem was the helmet visor fogging up and me being soaking wet (despite goretex weather gear)

As for a helmet you can get away with shades up to about 60 mph, above that a helmet is a good idea. It was not until driving the Atom that I realised how much stuff must hit the windscreen of a normal car, you notice it more when it is smaking into your face !

Nick,

There are many threads here about insurance and car usage.

See this link www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=180664&f=79&h=0

I am with Footman James limited mileage (4,500) £350 pa

I have had the car since January and done 4,000 miles and three track days. Still on the same set of tyers and brakes. So cheap to run. As for how wet, if you have ever been on a bike it's just like that. Get good wet weather gear. I've driven for hours in the ran and stayed dry with the right gear on. If you do get an Atom make sure they fit a plug so as you can run heated gloves or other electrical equipment off it. You need a well fitting helmet for long journeys, the car is exposed and things do get thrown up from the road and now the summers here there are plenty of bugs that will hurt when they hit you!!!

Let us know your location, you can usually find a local Atom owner willing to give you a run out.

Hello Nick
Your the same age as me, Atom insurance is actually pretty cheap. 700 pounds per annum with Footman James, the same as my group 2 Ka (although that is on a limited milage policy)

I came from an Elise S2, before that I had a Cerbera. TVRs look nice & go quick. Unfortunately they brake down a lot too. I used to think the Cerbera could go round corners quite well, untill I got the Elise. I used to think the Elise went round corners well, untill I got the Atom. I doesn't use tyres - it uses glue!

Weather isn't a big problem actually - depends on how presentable you need to be at the other end.
