I think someone in our local council has a love affair with all these traffic calming heaps they love to plonk across our roads - they're everywhere!

Is the Atom generally okay at clearing these? What's the minimum clearance of the Atom?

Cheers

The clearance on the Atom depends on the setup / wheel size choice - some are lower than others.

However, I live in Central London and if the Atom couldn't get over speed bumps, speed humps, speed tables, speed pillows and all the other Traffic Infuriating measures within a couple of hundred mneters of my house, I'd be screwed. The only measure I do take is to remove the front wing when not on track.

Just drive slowly over the full length ones and take the pillow designs with one wheel on one wheel off.

Don't forget, the Atom passes the speed bump test at the Top Gear test track, which is why there's a time posted for the Atom on the big board, but not for a Radical.

I have had a problem scraping the front on the larger speed bumps when I have a mate in the car with me. Found a good technique is to accelerate whilst the front is approaching the bump to lift it up a bit and clear the hazard. Should stress that I am quite a porker as are my mates due to a fondness for beer and pie.

Presumably when you scrape the front on the speed bumps it marks at the point of contact?

Just wonder whether it would be worthwhile to make some sort of sacrificial metal plate, fitted at the point of contact, simply to protect the car?

It's not the nose that scrapes, it's the belly, and that doesn't show. However, some sort of titanium plate would give off lovely sparks!

Might just be worth double-checking ...the radiator stuck down below everything else on my Mk1, so that was first point of contact...

Seems to be the back of the nose bit rather than the belly on mine, I will go and have a look during my next tea break. Titanium plate sounds like a winner.

You could always bolt a couple of these to the underside...

# A choice of Carbon Fibre, Carbon Kevlar or Aluminium Weave backing.
# Super heavy duty mushroom velcro rivetted to the back of the puck.
# Simply the finest, most spectacular sparking knee sliders available.

Is this really a feasible option?

Not being an Atom owner yet I am interested in keeping mine it good condition. What part of the belly of the Atom is being scraped? is it a part that can be replaced cheaply or is it part of the scaffolding?!

John in you case it's one for each arse cheek.

(Sorry that's getting you back for the photo you sent in the post, which has really confused Brenda as it arrived whilst I was in Spa and I some explaining to do until I mentioned the sad mans website (Pistonheads that is)).

You mean Brenda opens your post?? Tut, tut!

Maybe she thought it was your other girlfriend!

Hope you had a great time in Spa, your abscence was noticed. Tell us about your experience sometime.

The car has plenty of clearance. This was the field next to my hotel room when I visited Spa.
