Drove the 220 at ariel yesterday.

Very impressed. Although the std brakes are dreadful!

Has anyone modified the gear lever/linkage to shorten throw and or remove some of the slop?

Iam thinking of the follwing

245 Atom
Race dash
Rollbar
Double adj suspenssion
Dymag wheels
Baffled Sump
Alcons
Unfinished seat
Competition ends
New wife

Yes Yes or No NO to the spec.

Car will be primarly a track day car, and sunday morning jobbie, Im not alowed a bike anymore you see!

I've been a biker for 36 years, however there was a short break 20 odd years ago, just after I got married when the dangerous machines were frowned upon by my wife. She got used to me drooling outside bike shops, and one day, when indulging in such activity, a salesman came over and asked me which bike I was interested in. "I'd love another bike," I said, "but SHE won't let me!" On hearing this, my wife dragged me out of the shop and tore me off a strip for making her out to be some sort of control-freak harridan. Then she realised what she was doing... bike back in the driveway the following weekend and at least one outside the house ever since.

Your spec sounds fine (I shalln't comment on the new wife). Make sure you get the camber etc. setup for trackdays as it makes a hell of a difference.

Things you haven't mentioned that are worth considering:

Road Pack (I assume you've ticked this box)
Limited Slip Differential (likewise)
Close Ratio Box (this might sort the throw issue)
Competition Steering Rack
Removable QR SPA Steering wheel boss (security - but I don't know if it works with the race dash)
Aerofoil Package (looks cool - doesn't do much, though)
Seat/Instrument Panel Anti Slip Coating (worth having)
3” FIA Seat Belts & Pads

Bruce

Road Pack - check

Limited Slip Differential - check

Close Ratio Box - This wasn't mentioned. I will call them. Simon said that the lever could be shortened but he would have to see about taking the slop out of the mounting and linkage.

Competition Steering Rack - No, std was quick enough!

QR SPA Steering wheel boss - check

Aerofoil Package - No, Running out of money

Seat/Instrument Panel Anti Slip Coating - No, I didnt fit the seat, shoulders that is, I may need to pack out with something so was goint to have thge seat unit unfinished. I need to put some more thought in to this bit.

3” FIA Seat Belts & Pads - check

Anything else?

PS Is there anyone specialised in setting up atoms?

Most race-based garages (or ones with the right kit) can set up the suspension provided they know the right settings. You'll find all that information (along with lots more that only owners really need to know) on the Members Only section of the website... was that a hint?

This may be a Mk1 K series option only...

i believe you can - i have the form printed out on my desk at work, just waiting for my cheque book to join it

are the standard brakes really that bad?
don't get me wrong - you can never have enough, but presumambly they're capapble of locking the wheels, and once you've done that.....?

Yes, anyone can join - you don't need an Atom, just an enthusiasm for them. And you don't even need a chequebook (although a cheque is fine!). We take paypal, so you can just email us the dosh (with a quid extra to cover charges)

The 220 BHP cars have a close-ratio 6-speed as standard.

If you don't rate the standard brakes, you could look at having Alcons all round. You can't fit a handbrake easily (although I confess I have not spent too long looking at this 'cos I don't care).

You might find, depending on your driving style, with Alcons on the front especially with Pagid pads that you have too much front bias: we do, so have specced our new 300 with Alcons all round. All a bit experimental, but the Alcons are lighter (I know, I know) than the standard ones. Discs are heavier, but more than outweighed by the reduction in weight of the ally calipers. Then you will have loads of braking power, and can play with the balance bar to get the set up you like.

If you have the adjustable dampers too, you can tinker with them to get the combination of pitch and brake force right and out brake anything.
