THIS IS MY FIRST POSTING . . .
Is Barry from Manchester ?
Is his car a black 140 ?
If so . . . I think I bought it !!
I wanted go give myself a little present after having an operation recently.
I telephoned Simon a few weeks ago, he told me about "Barry's" car, it sounded just what I wanted.
I paid a deposit last week, it was collected from Barry's by Ariel & they're currently fitting a rear aerofoil, cigar sockets & sorting out a few potential rattles.
I'm hoping to have it delivered ("when the guys are next in London"), next week . . .
. . . can't wait !
Does anyone have any further info. about my new car ?
Or any advice for a very new Atom owner ?

Hi Lloyd!
Yes, Barry's from Manchester, and his car was a black 140, and congratulations on buying it!
Good extras to have fitted and sorry, but you'll never get rid of ALL the rattles. Think of it as a soundtrack!
email me and let me know what part of London are you in maybe we can meet up!
For more info, I guess you could talk to Barry. If you email me through my profile, I'll pass your mail on to him.
And the best advice for any new Atom owner is to join the Owner's Club (I'm ever so slightly biased as I'm the chairman!). Check out the website www.atomclub.com for more information.
I look forward to seeing you on the road and track!
Bruce.

Hi Bruce
Thanks for your reply . . .
. . . I live in Stanmore, Middx.
Not sure I should contact Barry direct (yet !) as it would seem that i'm treading on Simons toes. (btw - Simon has been amazing to deal with).
So . . . do you have any further info. on my car or any advice (apart from the obvious . . . joining the Atom Club - which I will be doing anyway . . . of course !) ?
One bit of advice I need:
Can the Atom be driven in Sunglasses or will I need goggles or a helmet ? I'll be MAINLY using it on hot summer days but recon I'll be tempted [eventually !] to drive in less than perfect conditions !

IT 'S ARRIVED . . .
. . . wow, what FUN !
Just two "issues" though:
1) It does'nt sound too good when not in gear . . . can anything be done (or should I upgrade to another model) ?
2) Being very short, the pedals are too far away for me, even when the seat's in the most forward possition . . . I know of a Company in Windsor (Hodge Mobility) who can extend pedals, but not sure I can get it there (legs too short !), does anyone have any suggestions (ie can the pedals be moved forward ?
Bruce & Simon, it was really nice to meet you both . . . thinking about Bedford but need more info.

Hi eley
I've been out in it all day . . . it gets better every mile !
I said in my last post that it sounds ropey when idling, infact it's when I rev up there seems to be a very anoying vibrating rattle, is this normal ?
Otherwise, I'M HOOKED . . . drives like a go-cart, very responsive and sensational round corners.
LLOYD
ps where in Watford are you, maybe we could get together.

Yes. The rattles are normal. They can be caused by masses of things. They're common to every single Atom and nothing to worry about.
If you feel like it, there are a number of things to try:
If the rattles go away when you have a passenger, then it's probably the seatbelts, either rattling on the seat, or the metal attachment bits rattling on the frame or the seat.
If they go away when the 'tray' is removed from the back (it's not essential) then it's that and you need to put some strips of neoprene foam there.
If they go away when you press down on any particular piece of body, that doesn't mean that's the cause, though.
Many people spend ages trying to minimise the rattles, but ultimately, they make absolutely no difference to the performance of the car, and when you're at full chat with earplugs in, you can't hear them anyway! And people you're driving past are too busy gawping at the car to hear any rattles!
If you still feel like tracking the rattles down, you're rather lucky in your location, in that the UK's best rubber trim suppliers are just around the corner from you: www.rubbertrim.co.uk See their website for all sorts of bits and strips of foam and rubber to glue to various bits.

My Rover doesn't sounds particularly clever when on tickover, but I don't think its anything to worry about. I get a lot of vibration noise from the rear "shelf" rubbing on the horiztonal rear support that it mounts on - taking the rear shelf off and putting a couple of layers of duck-tape along the tube helped a lot. Its also worth doing for the sake of protecting the powder-coating on the tube - mine's actually worn through the lacquer, and allows dirt to get between the lacquer and the powdercoat surface - which doesn't look too nice. Saw your car at the factory on Thursday (in fact, nearly got to drive it to London to deliver it for you!)- its an absolute stunner - so I'm guessing you'll want to keep it that way!!

Bedford's a great track for learning a new car - acres of run-off, so you get chance to find the limits of the car without breaking anything. You can even throw it off at the end of the main straight and you won't hit anything ...which was fortunate!!
I've taken the top cover off but I still get this loud "farty" noise when engine is revved up . . .
. . . anyway, as you've quite rightly said, it does'nt effect the performance and it adds to the charcter of the Atom . . . so i can live with it.
Does'nt mean I won't keep trying to find the cause, I'll report when I do.
Can't wait for tomorrow . . . more FUN will be had in Stanmore (and surrounding areas !).
When is the next meeting in Bedford & how do I find it etc ?
