Wow. I am beyond excitement!

Firstly, Adrian Flux will insure me for £778 fully comp. for a year, limited to 5000 miles but that’s more than enough. They are great.

Secondly, and probably more importantly, my sensible girlfriend has agreed to ‘just not say anything’ and let me get on with it. Excellent, all I have to do is turn off my girlfriend repercussion sensors and I’ll feel great about the whole thing.

I’m still going to wait for about 2-3 months to get some more cash up, and to have a cooling off period as I usually buy cars when I’m either a) bored or b) drunk. I’m neither bored nor drunk at the moment so it’s looking good for the Atom.

Some things that I’ve definitely decided:

1. Keep the diesel workhorse Xantia for my commute as I don’t think the insurance Adrian Flux is offering will cover commuting (?) and I don’t want to whack loads of miles on the Atom.
2. Go for a 140 to start with as I’ll probably kill myself if I buy a faster one and I want to get used to driving the beasts. Also it suits budget (although if anyone is selling a 160+ for around £16K then I’ll have it)
3. If that green Atom that was abandoned for a Caterham is still sitting in the Caterham garage in two months I’m going to rescue it.

Is there anything (and there probably is) that I can do to a 140 to make it quicker? I guess upgrading the header/internals/injectors that sort of thing?

Anyway, I’m on a high. I might be an Atom owner soon!

Yay!

Did you claim to be a member of the AAOC? We get an extra discount, and we can get unlimited track days for an extra £50p.a.! Now THAT'S a deal and a half!

I wouldn't bother. The 140 is pretty quick straight out of the box (that's 280bhp per tonne!) and an unmolested one will sell better and quicker than one that's been bothered by spanners!

Well done! See you soon on the road and track!

If you're not going to do 5,000 miles a year, ask for a re-quote based on 3,000 miles. It'll save you at least £200.

I'm going to have to increase my mileage estimate from 3,000 to 10,000 in the next few months ...and I'm not looking forward to it!
