hello,
just a quick question, if i got my hands on a old atom assuming that the space in which the engine sits is the same would i be able to put a honda engine in it.. i.e. i buy a cheaper rover engine one which there seem to be many of them about take engine out put a nicer honda engine in of corse making appropriate modification to brakes and so forth. could this be done????
i am assuming the chassis is the same and the hole in which the engine sits is the same in dimentions. also while i'm here has anyone tryed the 2.2 v-tec honda engine?? ok it turned out to be a long question.

Quick answer.
No.
Longer answer.
The Honda I think has different engine mounts and the chassis may well be subtly different at the back. There's also a totally different wiring loom and all the other electrics are different as well as other bits like the fuel tank. Frankly, by the time you've paid £15000 for a 120bhp Mk 1 and then bought the engine, gearbox, electrics, loom, and all the other mods, and put in all the hard work and labour, you're better off buying a Mk2 160 and have done with it! Or just buy the Mk1, have some fun for a while, sell it with little depreciation and go for a more powerful one...

Apart from anything, you might struggle getting hold of a 120 - Bruntingthorpe have sold the last of their 4, and I've not seen any others around.
That said, if you get a 120, even with the Rover engine, you'll have phenomenal fun - thoroughly enjoyed mine at Bedford on Saturday ...and by the end of the year, I *WILL* have my 120 lapping quicker than Bruce's 220 :-)
