What do people use for making their cars less easy to steal while parked in public places? Currently mine's got a removable steering wheel ...and that's it. Nothing to stop kids starting the car / switching the lights on and running the battery down. Haven't got an immobiliser, as its got a wierd ECU which apparently can't be immobilised.

Thinking of adding a simple switch on the battery, but that's not exactly difficult for someone to get round.

Any ideas?

I would think a good quality key switch that isolates the battery would be sufficient. One designed for marine use would probably be best. Thats a question actually, what do you atom owners do if it starts to rain? theres not exactly much to keep leccy bits dry

All standard road cars come with a full immobiliser - the new cars come with a thatcham 2 toad one which is pretty strong stuff. The Mk. 1 came as standard with the Rover two button immobiliser as found on everything from the lotus elise to the land rover defender...

There is a way of immobilising the car completely - but if you think I'm going to tell you how to do it on a public forum - you're very much mistaken!

Andy - you have mail...

The other thing you can add is a unique removable steering wheel boss. This has to be welded to the steering column, so it can't be changed, but means that yours is the only car it will fit.

Doesn't stop the trailer route though . . .
