Hi Guys,
Is anyone in or out of the group any good with fibreglass repairs?
I did my front Mudguard in at castle coombe, and want it repaired in time for Rockingham, a local bodyshop quoted £200 + for the repair and respray, does anyone else think thats a bit rich? Please if anyone wants the job or can help out I would be very grateful.

The cost of a new mudgard is less than that so ask Simon, and ask him to send one which is fixed (metallic part bonded/glued with the fiber glass, not in 2 separate parts).

Thanks JP- I did ask simon as a back up, and he said he would come back with a delivery date. The price was about £50 without the metalwork, a bargain compared with the repair price, but its the delivery time that worries me. If needs be then I'll run with it broken on the day.

Mark,
I'm sure they have it in stock.
If problem, i have one here (new) because i was thinking to be obliged to change mine after my roe-deer meeting end of july.
It was not the case, so i have the 2 elements :
"black" fiber part and metallic part.
I would prefer to keep them, but if delivery time problem, ask me and i send it immediatly to you.
Difficulties : you will have to fix the 2 parts together and i don't know the product they use to bond/glue it.

Jon- I was wondering how you held that engine of yours together, now you've given the game away !
Re spare mudguard, JP you are a a top man ! I'll try Simon on Monday just in case he has managed to find one in his stock room. Will keep you posted.

PS. The product used to bond the fibreglass to the metalwork is made by Wurth.

How?

If Simon has one you can get him to fit it for you at Rockingham. Although I think it's quite a tricky job - doesn't most of the suspension have to come off? Then you have to reset everything...

Still... could be a lot worse - especially if you'd been driving a saloon!

One M8 bolt and a 9/16 but to undo to take the stay off, then 2 M6 bolts hold the mudguard to the stay.

Its easier to take the wheel off and change the mudguard if the stay isnt damaged

That's the old style I think - the new one has the fibreglass glued to the metal and you have to take the whole lot through the top suspension to remove it...
