Just spoke to Wayne at AON and he's prepared to give 'Atom Owners Club' Members a 10% discount (bloody typical since I just renewed!) This includes Trackday insurance at £25 per trackday which has to be approved in advance and the XS goes up to £2k for the day, but some don't offer any cover at all... Also you should have had track experience and ideally training (but going out on track with an experienced driver counts as training, so no problem there)

And the normal road driving insurance is pretty good with AON. My fully comp policy covers 3000 miles p.a. with an XS of £100 for a premium of £490 ish with the car kept in a locked garage. This is for a 50 year old living right in Central London with the car valued at £20k.

For more, talk to Wayne at AON on 01384 552 743

That's not bad, although Footman James costs less at approx £270 for 3000 miles pa with euro breakdown cover thrown in.

That's for me (33 years old), with a Manchester postcode using an Atom 2, 220. But there's no NCD discount and no trackday cover so that's worth bearing in mind.

Both seem good options though.

Anyone else got any examples - this kind of info is really useful for potential new owners.

Mine's with Footman James, and costs £597 a year, fully comp with European Breakdown cover ...not too bad for a 22 year old.

It costs me twice as much to insure my bog-standard Transit with its whopping 40bhp/tonne.

I am also with Footman James. limited mileage of 4500 at £359.10 mid 40's no claims 10 years plus.

I did ask them for insurance for the track day. They came up with £52.50, but £2,500.00 excess and maximum replacement value of £25,0000.00. Does anyone know who else I could try? As I would like to be able to replace my car if i trash it!

I've just got quotes from about 10 companies and MSM gave me the best quote, beating A Flux (the next lowest) my 50 quid for like for like cover (both gave discount for AAOC membership).
MSM don't cover for track days but pointed out that a claim against track only insurance would not count against normal road cover whereas with a joint road / track policy, a claim for a spill on the track would mean bye bye to NCD.
Before I make a decision can anyone give me a phone number to check out track only cover?

Don't have a number to hand, but I'll post one later. However, from memory, separate track day cover cost about £200 per trackday!!! That's why the Flux deal is so good. Although you have a £2k excess, they pay out up to £30k. I think separate cover makes track days unrealistically expensive. Some people don't have any track day cover at all, and that works for them. Plus, remember that any incident on track is not the other party's legal responsibility - you sign that right away by partaking in the day. So even if some twit punts you off, you have no recourse to the twit, the organisers, the track owners or anyone else.

As I suspected, for a £30,000 car, each trackday would cost c. £270 for insurance!!!

If you still want to do it separately, here are a few options:
These guys are very well known:
www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk/track_days1.htm

I'd not come across these chaps before
www.morispayment.co.uk/affiliate_trackday.asp?prefix=CIG

But the general advice from the experts is to get it on your road insurance if you can...

Don't forget, a claim on one car doesn't affect your NCB on other insurances on other cars.
