FedEx parcel arrives from USA - value, $32 - Lovely Jubbly and I'm more than happy with my new gift. thumbup

2 WEEKS later, FedEx letter arrives wanting:-
£3.98 for VAT - no problem, I gotta pay that
and
£10 Advancement fee (whatever that is) scratchchin

I phoned them up and put on my posh voice (yes I do have one) and was told 'its a handling charge'.
HANDLING CHARGE!!! furious
"Did you have to do as much as £10 worth of handling"!!!

I mean it was the size of a shoe box weighing less than half a pound - how much 'handling' does that need!!!

£10 charge for a £20 parcel....... "there avinalarf!

There, rant over - boy I feel better.

Anyone else had this problem, before I draft a letter to my MP. hehe

yep been there, customs charges on shipping which was over valued, they were the shipping company FFS they knew how much it cost to ship. Incorrect duty rate applied due to wrong classification of contents. and to top it all off the handling fee they charged to screw it all up on my behalf without me asking them to. Will never use them if i can at all avoid it. If possible get it shipped USPS, on the few occasions it gets caught by customs they at least seem fair.

In my world:

"FedEx parcel arrives from USA - value, $32 - Lovely Jubbly and I'm more than happy with my new gift."

Ignore all further correspondence from FedEx.

The End.

Yeah, it is completely ridiculous to stick the *recipient* of a package with additional arbitrary 'handling fees'. What the hell!? You're a giant multinational haulage firm, it's your job to handle stuff! Certainly a charge of nearly 50% of the value of the delivery is ludicrous, unrepresentative of the work done and ought to be illegal under any sane government.
