Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice, I am bringing a viper over in a few months that is on a salvage title, the car has very light damage and still drives etc.

My question was can I register it with the DVLA using the salvage title? Also will the car be registered here in the Uk as damaged and repaired? Its a year 2000 so wont need an IVA just MOT

Many thanks!

I guess your wondering why no one has jumped at a reply ???

Well this is a bit of a sticky subject on this forum, we have in the past been involved with a couple of people who have bought in salvaged titled cars, except they tried to sell them as mint as they were not CAT D in the UK.

If you have bought the car over to make profit then you don't really fit with the criteria on this board as your a user and not a true enthusiast. If you are going to keep the car and have a passion for the mark then we welcome you with open arms and suggest that you post a couple fo pictures to give us some idea of the work you intend to do and we will try to help you as much as we can.

The problem is that almost all front impacts require the chassis to be replaced as this is one of the crumple zones, if this is not done your gaps will be weird and almost all prespective owners come here for advice which we are happy to give, side impacts can also be a chassis nightmare as can the claasic Viper crash...to much power on cold tyres backwards across the road and into something hard, requiring fibreglass, plastic and wheels a new Viper wheel with no tyre is about 1K dependant on type so secondhand parts are often used, no problem we can recommend someone for that.

I closing this of great interest to us if you are a future enthusiast, I hope you don't take this reply as negative it was meant to be quite the reverse, enjoy the car I will look forward to seeing it one day, but please post some pictures, we have easy access to the Dodge maintenance tracking system, salvage is one thing total loss is another and we encourage all owners to carfax, check the Dodge database and ask us loads of questions.

Hello, Welcome to the Viper forum's. As Paul said we can help and give advice, But as Paul also said there are some people out there who try to pass off Vipers as Mint when they have been salvaged, I know this from first hand experience, My credit card company had to go after the dealer after he tried selling me a written off Viper, To say I'm still bitter about that experience is an understatement rage

Please post up some pics of your new toy and I'm sure we could steer you in the right direction smile

I too have a 2000 GTS smile

Well thanks for the replies guys, the main reason I'm bringing the car over is it allows someone like me to get a car like that at a much lower price. My main concern was if the DVLA would allow me to register the car, I'm not worried about if it's a cat d etc as anyone can carfax it and get the history quite easily.

As for the car it has some melted body work something any Bodyshop could sort out quite easily so no bent chasis etc to worry about

Hello, I'm not sure if you have done your research but the costs in replacing 'body parts' could be rather high! What EXACTLY has melted? If body panels melted the heat would have affected a whole bunch of other things too! So whats the history then? Was it an electrical fire, engine fire, building fire with car by building? If you plan to do the repair work yourself you should take pictures of the whole rebuild process because if you decide to sell the car on, you will have a hard time moving it on without all work being documented. Sorry If I sound cautious but as I posted earlier I was caught out by people trying to sell me something that had been written off!

So is the car in the UK yet?

Well it was parked next to something that was on fire so panels aren't too bad, I might opt fir repair rather then replacements
