Hi,

I am on the verge to Order some Mintex F2R Racing pads but i found out that aparantly for few track days a year the stock pads and brakes are good enough and that the Mintex would kill my stock disks and would be noisy.

Would you agree with that? Would be doing 2 Oulton and two Spa this year. Stock pads ok?

I will get better fluid and braided lines.

Do you find stock pads at good price in UK?

Thanks again,

Eduardo.

Why don't you book into a track day and take you viper as it is, do a sensible service before hand (I.e. Halfords brake fluid, not something you brought from the guy supplying Mclaren F1) Take it easy and learn the car, find out what shortcomings bother you and are worth addressing rather than just flicking through the summit catalog.

The viper SRT10 brakes are very good as they are, but you wont win the FIA GT3 Championship with them.

Fair point. Thanks.

Stock pads are great on the Vipers for the road, but personally I don't rate them for the track if you push them. Mintex are about the only pad I've not tried. I favour Performance Friction for a good track pad, that lasts, doesn't kill the discs, and importantly maintains a good cold bite.

Hi guys,

Just received my first from shippement from JonB

Caps for my Eibach pro kit, braided lines, and what suppose to be Mintex F2R.

The supposed Mintex F2R arrived in a Brembo Racing Box and apparently Bedded as it say in the box (used ?)

When i called JonB he said that is the ones, saying that Mintex does Brembo pads and some time sends them in Brembo boxes and that they were bedded.

Does that sound right?

Sorry first shipment so don't know what to make of it,

Thanks

Eduardo

I'm no expert but, why would there be any benefit in bedding pads to anything other than the disks and car they are to be used on, Surely the whole point of bedding is to get the pads and disks matched together and the material from the pads onto the disks.

Have to agree with Dave here, I would think that it would make more sense to bed them on the car they are being fitted to, as I would assume that there will always be variants which could come into play with regard to disc wear etc.

I am sure that they 'will' bed to your car, but I don't understand the sense in 'pre-bedding' them. Unless maybe in race application it helps with not glazing the face of the pad if they are to be changed in a hurry ready for use on track, and in this application obviously you don't have the option to follow bedding in instructions whilst racing.

The bedding side of things when thought of like that doiesn't concern me so much.

However, I would definitely be more concerned regarding the Mintex F2R Pads arriving boxed as Brembo Racing Pads, it might be just me, but if I bought Mintex I would want to see Mintex on it somewhere so that I know that's what I have... and from those photos I cannot see anything which shows the word Mintex anywhere, (boxes or pads), which I find a little strange. Surely Mintex and Brembo are two different companies??

Looking at the Mintex website I would suggest that they have their own branding, and their own style of boxes etc
[pic]http://www.mintex.co.uk/images/stories/images_home/home_box_de.jpg/[pic]
And from some of the pics on their website it would also suggest that they also print their Mintex Logo/name on the backing plate of their brake pads.

I have to agree with Mark (Fatboy18), in that I find it hard to believe that JonB would knowingly sell/send you something which is not what you have asked for, many of us here, myself included have spent a LOT of money with him in the past few years and although his emails are often not the best, (and it is never advisable to ring him on a Monday), he is an extremely knowledgable guy and very helpful.

I think you need to find out a little more about this Brembo/Mintex Issue to dispel any concerns.

If I am reading your original post correctly you were advised not to use Mintex as they will kill the stock discs... As has already been said above, the stock Brembo SRT brakes are good in their own right. Any particular reason why you chose to go down the Mintex route anyway?

Mark, Eduardu, et al

Jon "JonB" Brobst here, thank you for the invitation to post.

Happy to clear this up....

As I told Eduardo, Mintex F2R Viper pads now come in Brembo boxes. Mintex manufactures them, and sends to Brembo. Brembo pre-beds the pads to operating temps, so drivers dont have to. So they end up in Brembo Boxes. This is done to Dodge Motorsports / Dodge Viper Cup Spec, for the ACR-X Series. {where I have the honour to drive the Official Pace Car!} Drivers never get 'green' pads, so it saves the drivers time from needing to heat and then COOL the pads in the bedding process.

Of course, the pads still need to bed to the rotors.....but you can skip the "cool to ambient temps" process because the pads are NOT GREEN.

(This is similar to buying pre-heat-cycled tires)

We would not sell "used" pads posing as new.....[altho some few owners on a strict budget have solicited our used pads to save money, and we can oblige.]

Best Wishes: JonB~~~~~:<~

FYI on my background, I was a Jag XKE owner and ersatz mechanic back in the day. After an MGB, TR-4-IRS, and a TR-GT6. I owned Jags: 67, a 69, and a 72, all Coupes. The latter a V12. The '67 was from the August Busch-(Budweiser) beer family of St. Louis, where I was in University at the time. My younger brother still owns the '69. I campained Jags in Autocross (then called Gymkhana) in St Louis, at or near the Corvette Factory back then. Porsches would kick my butt, but NOT the vettes. It was a hoot to have the ONLY Jag at a GM-Corvette Plant Autocross! "Deadman's Curve" was the Jan & Dean rock song that commemorates the well-known Jag vs Vette rivalry of that era.

Met Group-44 Bob Tulius, and invited to Coventry, but a big labour strike mucked-up my tour.

Fast forward to LOTUS......been to Hethel too, in my Esprit Turbo days. By mistake I saw the Corvette ZR-1 Black-motor prototype at Hethel, prior to any media release. I freaked out when I saw the huge 4-cam monstor V8, and had only heard rumours of the Lotus V-8, not then offered. It was badged Mercury Marine. !!! They shooed me away, and tossed a tarp over it. Only much later did I understand what I had seen. I Still have my "VISITOR" badge from that tour.

When the Viper was anounced for production, I changed by Esprit license plate tag to: VENOMUSS, so that when my first Viper eventually came I already had the tag.

No more British cars for me since then, but would love to make Goodwood Festival one day.

CHEERS......thanks for the welcome.

Hi Jon, Welcome and thanks for the history, what a lot of fun! Like many others here I am a customer of yours. My Viper was at both Goodwood events last year and will be again this year (this year now with the possibility of both of them for the Revival smile. I just wanted to say that a number of us go to or have been to the Goodwood events so if you want any advice or support in attending please either pm or post and i'm sure we'd be happy to help. They can certainly be a lot of fun but are very different events (Festival of Speed vs. The Historic Goodwood Revival race weekend).
