"A few of the most recognizable American cars currently in production are the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Corvette and the insanely powerful Dodge Viper. In its biggest and best form, the Dodge Viper used an 8.4-liter gas-guzzling V-10 engine which just so happens to have the biggest displacement of any engine on the market, even eclipsing the 8.0-liter behemoth in the Bugatti Veyron. However, this engine, as well as the car itself, is set for a complete upgrade as the successor to the Dodge Viper is released in 2012 ready for a production date sometime during 2013.

These rumors were confirmed by Dodge boss Ralph Gilles back in November where he stated very bluntly that the car would be returning in the summer of 2012 as a 2013 model. In an interview with The Detroit News he also said that the new Viper “is not based on anything else” and “where the cabin is, to the rear wheels, is very unique, the Viper cabin is very rearward and the hood is very long. Few cars in the industry are designed with those proportions anymore.”

In fact the only car that has proportions to rival the Dodge Viper is the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG--because the SLS is based on the architecture that was to become the next Viper, when Dodge and Daimler still were part of one company.

Gilles also revealed that the car will be much softer and forgiving than the previous Viper and as a result the car should appeal to a much greater audience. What’s more he even went on to say that it will be “drop-dead gorgeous” and the styling will be inspired by a “naked woman on the beach” and while this does sound very strange, it could indicate that the main market he is aiming for is males. Surprise, surprise.

With the car also expected to go on sale in Europe, the next-gen Dodge Viper should definitely make its mark all around the globe."

The last sentence is very interesting.......does this include the UK? Does this mean there will be a RHD Viper?

Don't like the bit about it being "softer and more forgiving", I mean if you can't drive by a Nissan.

Well the SRT was softer and more forgiving.
But quite frankly I like an 8l engine, konis at each corner with fat Michelin rubber. No ABS, antispin, ESP, etc, etc. I think airbags, a CD radio and AC are more than enough of a 'doff of the cap' to modernity smile

I imagine the Viper will have to be more forgiving by law? Stability control and aother electronic aids are going to be mandatory for production cars by the time the new Viper arrives on the market, so the last of the charmingly untamed beasts will be the Gen4s.
