Added to dates wiki thumbup

Should be good for this next year, would've liked to have been able to have made it this year, but just too darn busy... Best part of job done now though, so freed up somewhat for the future... woohoo

See enclosed latest from the organisers for the Silverstone Classic next year.

I'd really like to get a good gathering of cars together, we've got a GTS-R, ACR's SRT's GTS's & RT's a plenty to put on a good show over a couple of days. Camping ( as in a tent!) is an option.

Any early indication of numbers??

There is also a 3 page PDF file that I can't seem to be able to post on here that details some costs. If anyone wants to see it I'll mail it to you. Perhaps discuss on 11th??

Dear Matt

Silverstone Classic 2011

We trust that you have in your diaries the dates for the 2011 Silverstone Classic – 22-24 July.

Since the takeover of the event licence by Goose Communications just three weeks prior to the 2010 event and valid for the next 15 years, we have been busy reviewing every aspect of the Silverstone Classic - developing those elements which work well; dismissing those introduced by the previous promoter which were off target or distracted from the main cause; revisiting features closely associated with the event in previous years. We have received much feedback and will be addressing the issues raised as we progress.

On Friday 19th November we went live with the brand new Silverstone Classic web site. On this site, and in the associated media release, we highlight the fact that we will be reintroducing a central meeting, catering and entertainment area on the infield, for 2011 in the form of a typical British village green – the loss of the ‘Scarf & Goggles’ has been the most mentioned criticism of the event during the past two years, so we needed to rectify this situation. The Friday and Saturday music concerts remain, but with bands more appropriate to the occasion and audience! In addition, Sunday of the event will feature an afternoon of classical music, a brand new attraction for next year.

The on-track activity is close to being finalised, for which we welcome back Group C and introduce a double-header for E-Types in celebration of the car’s 50th anniversary. In all, 15 race grids providing over 20 maximum capacity races over the weekend.

The E-Type 50th will also be a major feature of the infield classic car display in 2011 with privately owned cars travelling to the circuit from around the world. We are hoping that the numbers arriving will constitute the largest number ever congregated together and be worthy of a Guinness World Record.

The Silverstone Classic 2011 will be the first opportunity for public access to the new F1 Grand Prix Garage Complex at the circuit, scheduled for completion in May next year. The 800 plus race cars for the Classic will be accommodated in both these garages and in the existing garage block. The race assemblies will be in the new garage paddock area, the start and finish lines the same as for the British F1 Grand Prix on the straight between Club and Abbey. A number of the current grandstands will be relocated in line with these substantial circuit changes with access available to those providing the best views of the action. By utilising both the new and existing garage blocks we will inevitably open up the infield to ensure that no classic car club will be allocated a display area outside the former Pits Straight, as was the case in 2010. The new race circuit does, of course, take in the Wellington Straight so bringing the racing even closer to these infield displays.

Another element omitted from the event in recent years, for financial reasons, has been the classic car club signage which not only assists during set up but, more importantly, provides a uniformity across the vast display and clear branding information to the spectators. We intend to rectify this situation but ask for your assistance in so doing.

New for 2011 is the Silverstone Classic Racing Club designed to provide a range of benefits to car clubs and their coordinators. Club Membership to the Silverstone Classic Racing Club (SCRC) is just £100.00. A very high proportion of this fee is absorbed by the in-cost to us of the club signage.

In addition, membership entitles the club to:

  • 2 personalised weekend tickets for the club coordinator (worth £160 at today’s Early Bird prices, £220 at ‘on-the-day’ prices) which also includes access to the Silverstone Classic Racing Club Pavilion and trackside Grandstand;
  • Entry to one car to represent the club in the new 2011 Silverstone Classic Concours D’Elegance;
  • Beneficial rates on Stowe Circuit track time for club members during the event (details tba);
  • Access for club members to dedicated, fully equipped camp site adjacent to the track at the preferential rate of £10 per person per night;
  • Free copy of event programme;
...plus the infield display area, individual club 2-4-1 ticket booking code, opportunity to celebrate a club anniversary with inclusion in the traditional Sunday car club track parade, club entry in the official programme, link to club web site....and, of course, official Silverstone Classic signage displaying the car club name.

For clubs registering for SCRC membership, we will continue to issue complimentary 3-day tickets to the club coordinator on a sliding scale based upon the number of cars booked using the club’s dedicated booking code. The entry level for these additional tickets is 10 cars.

Individual and Family Memberships of the SCRC are also available, details upon request.

I attach the Silverstone Classic car club registration form for your completion. On receipt of this form we will issue you with your dedicated discount booking code allowing your members to take advantage of the 2-4-1 ticket offer.

Should you have any questions regarding the 2011 Silverstone Classic please don’t hesitate to getting back to me. If you are visiting the Autosport International Show at the NEC in January you will find us in Hall 6 Stand Number 6710.

May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very happy Christmas and safe and prosperous New Year.

Best Regards

Neil Carr-Jones

I will deffo' be going in 2011 - 2010 was a brilliant weekend; the weather played ball and even the evening entertainment was OK.

Seeing/hearing these guys racing in anger is the absolute dogs:

Close to the action as well smile

Is anyone interested in The Silverstone Classic 2011?
The organisers have been in touch again asking.
Basically we ( The Viper Club UK ) need to join the Silverstone Members Club, that costs £100.00, for that we get in the programme and get a space for the cars and some banners etc..., I have their e-mail that I can mail to those who are interested so you can read for yourselves exactly what that entails, athough I have posted it up previously. Then you'll need to buy tickets, with a promotion code that they will issue, at a discounted price.

Obviously the first issue is that we aren't a proper club and dont have a treasurer and any club funds!

If anyone is interested then PLEASE can we have a show of hands so I have an idea of numbers. If there's a sufficient lack of interest then I'll let the organisers know that we won't be atending.

Thanks.

i don't mind paying a discounted entrance fee for the big events like the GT and SSC but £100 club registration on top seems a bit much given we are forming (all be it a tiny) part of their days attraction. Even if 10 of us put our names down it still adds a not in-significant sum to the ticket and would probably cost more than just fronting up as a punter.

Does this membership give us anything else (extra) at other events?

It's in one of my posts above, but if you PM me your e-mail address then I'll send you the PDF. It's worth the fee IF you're going to take advantage of the promotions that they offer!

I agree with you on the principal of having to pay to attend an event that we form a part of (even if it is a small part) but that does seem to be the way that these events are going. Think of this event as being along the same lines as one of the Goodwood events.

We don't have to join the Silverstone club thingy.

Those who are interested PM me and I'll give you the code for the tickets when I receive it so you can buy them online.

Nice, but its so nice to do Germany, thanks for organising Silverstone, but Jim Clark at Hockenheim is such great fun, I have been for the last 10 years and if you want to come with us next year, meet Marcus and Drew and really make some heads turn, then let me know.

But after 13 years VCAQ membership I take my hat off to any person who organises anything.
