Lol, if you continue having problems you could always like change to an aftermarket shifter Lol, which will help to increase the feel, shorten the throw, and get better spring return to the centre it's well worth upgrading the shifter to a B&M Short Shifter, or the Hurst version which is available from Chuck.

It can be a pain sometimes, I also find its how you hold the shifter
If you place your open hand on top of the shifter, then tilt your hand down towards you (thumb down) and grasp the shift knob it helps. I find you have to palm the shifter over towards the passenger side, this is also essential when shifting from 3rd to 4th! (there have been many vipers written off from people thinking they were selecting 4th to quickly lift up the clutch pedal and find themselves back in 2nd) the wheels lock up and you find yourself spinning off road! (I've almost done it!)

PS the other thing that can be helpful is changing out the transmission mounts and Engine mounts to new Woodhouse Polly mounts
