Does anyone use their Viper for such a task?

Or would that be sheer madness?

i know a few in the club in the old days used to run their vipers all year for the daily commute

The Stoat uses his as his daily and only drive

guess it all depends where you park, and if you could put up with the running costs

Ok so mainly for reasons of vehicle security and fuel costs?

Or is it a nightmare in traffic as well? Heavy clutch? Bad visibility?

I should add that Ive driven a GTS about 300 miles, though mostly in the country which was fine. Around town the torque and tire frying was fun.

depends on your personal commute i guess, i could run a viper to work though it would cost a small fortune, 36 miles a day mainly on a motorway which is generally pretty flowing, but real boring no matter what car your in
(then parked in a secure gated car park)

cant really see the point if your on crap roads in traffic, totting up miles on your viper would be a waste in my eyes, better to get a cheap run about for such things?

Have to admit, I don't like leaving the car in non secured areas, OK I took the car to Le mans, but my reasoning behind that is that hopefully people were there to see nice cars and would welcome them.

As for leaving the car in your local Asda car park or parked in the street wile your away from the car on business, I would not be comfortable with that at all in this country frown People over here are jealous of people with nice things and I guarantee the car will be damaged or keyed for a bit of fun by some tosser with a hoodie on rage

Ok bit more time so here goes.

Gen1 RT10 forget it unless you are prepared to change at work as if you had gone in on a bike, probably everything else no real problem until it snows, then your stuck, do not even think about it in the snow, tried it once out of necessity, got about 200yds and turned around, SO worked from home for that day. As for the rest, you will find that from about oct/nov through march/april you will be driving it on a knife edge, you can still have fun but you will constantly be assessing road condition, way way more than in most other cars, and you will be being very careful on the gas, you wont get the gas pedal near the floor for 6 months. Its still fun though and perfectly possible.

As for day to day driving, never really had a problem, once you get used to LHD and your road position etc (which will be easy on a commute) its just as good as any other car, if not easier. Slip roads, pick your gap up front and accelerate into it, easy.

Going to tescos etc, yeah i worry a bit if there are some youths hanging around (god i sound old now) but have never had a problem, only time anyone has touched it and done any damage it was on the drive. I wouldn't be leaving it in a shopping centre or railway car park all day, but everything else, if it happens it happens and its probably more likely to happen to an audi or BMW if you ask me. your may have more problems with a soft top though.

I have probably used mine on the commute less recently as its less of a novelty and my commute at the moment can be a bit boring and frustrating sat in a long queue of traffic longing to be at the front of the queue for when the lights go green and i have 1/4 mile of open road, but mostly there's some slow piece of crap in the way.

If a viper is what you really want and you just cant do a second car then you can make it work, just expect to work from home on a snow day and be real careful for 6 months a year.

Used mine for loads of things even the daily shop never ever had a problem othern than nose prints on the windows and sticky fingers on the paint, so no problem with a daily drive, yes the clutch is heavy but not so bad.

Major problem is, you will no doubt curb a wheel, its almost inevitable and on the chrome or polished finish I have yet to find anyone good enough in the UK to repair them.
