At 18, a year is an 18th of your life, at 50 it's a 50th of your life... you get the idea.
So where I am going with this is that as you get older, a year becomes a smaller and smaller part of your life, and therefore they appear to move faster and faster.
Just a theory...

When you are say 3 years old, a year is essentially a third of your life, so feels long... At 18, a year is an 18th of your life, at 50 it's a 50th of your life... you get the idea.
