...not quite there yet guys but have decided to plan ahead. Event Tyres are offering rears at £214.08 fitted and they're listed as 345/30ZR19 105Y MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 2 PS2 C1. Obviously the size and Z rating is correct but does anyone have a view on these tyres? Should I steer clear or are they worth having? Are they basically cut slicks or safe for use in the rain? Any insights most welcome chaps smile

Cheers,

Andy

Michelin PS2's are what most of us run with... They seem to be the best for the Viper.
Seems an extremely cheap price for a 19" wheel! Did you bite their arm off!?

Hold up... Just checked the Event Tyres Website, I notice they have PS2's and Pilot Sport Cup's in that size, the cups being a fair bit more expensive... Not sure about the standards for SRT's, hopefully Neil (Viper) will be along shortly to help out.

Ah well, that's per tyre so maybe not as cheap as you thought? I think they could be fitted for £380 all in though. Is that still a good price? How's about the fronts? The equivalent Michelins seem to be more expensive than the rears! I'm looking for 275/35 R18s and getting silly prices... scratchchin

The C1 indicates its the stock tyre for the viper, doubt they are run flats though. If your getting PS2 C1 for the rear, what are you doing on the front? not old run flats i hope!

Personally I'm not so keen on the PS2's in the winter, don't think they are as good as the PS1 in the cold but they are great in the summer and its not like PS1 is an option now or anything else for that matter. They are standard tread tyres though, for the cut slick you would be after the PS cups.

At that price i would bite their arm off. but if you are storing them i would be careful of born on dates now as some could be getting to a few years old now.

Nah, not looking to keep the runflats at all. Have not got on with them in the slightest! They seem to offer no progression or feel. It's just *grip* ... *spin* and nothing inbetween. They're presumably the original tyres though given the car had only 8,500 miles on it when I got it. The tyres are old, worn and grumpy I guess. What I really want is not outright grip because I don't do that many emergency starts or track days. I'm looking for good performance in the wet as well as the dry, by which I mean something that inspires confidence. At the moment I get no warning when the tyres let go and they seem to unstick at the slightest provocation i.e. imperfections in the road surface you'd expect to be handled frown

What tyres would you recommend for someone looking for improved feedback to inspire confidence?

Cheers,

Andy

PS the Pilot Sport cups are stock for the 08-10 ACR, the PS2 C1 for all other 08-10 vipers and 03-06 if you dont mind sitting at the side of the road with a flat or get a can of goo, the runflats are stock for 03-06.

Obviously you could put any on any other year though.

If you want a all-rounder the cup sport new acr tyre is maybe not the one..

When the new M3 CSL came out it had cup sports as std and i seem to remember BMW saying not advisable in the wet...

the 345/30ZR19 105Y MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 2 PS2 C1 you listed above are not the pilot sport cups and at that price i would grab them. I paid nearly £150 more each for them last year when i got a nail in one.

I suspect now that the numbers that the factory will need to complete the viper production are known, Michelin may be dumping the surplus stock much like they did with the PS1 at the end of Gen 2 production.

I'm very tempted to get a pair as well for my new wheels... Pity the fronts aren't cheap as well though. I wonder what the made on date for them is as well.

The PS2 tires are great tires.

I had the old PS tires on two Vipers and I have the new PS2 on both of my Vipers now.

Although the GEN4 is a much better driver the sticky PS2 (even on wet surface) make a big difference on the GTS also.

I switched from old PS to new PS2 on my RT/10 and the handling was much better immediately.
Tested on the track during drivers trainings also.

The PS2 is a true allrounder!

Cheapest I found for the SRT was £1200 for a set of 4 fitted balanced etc, from a local performance tyre company, if they are stock then snatch them up, the guy in front of me had been waiting three months for the rears in the same size as the Viper for his GT2.

Little teaser here...

Not sure why but the rears seem a touch harder than the ones I took off even though they are newer.

Also means I possibly have an almost new set of 17" PS2's lying around... 5.5mm on the rears (DOT Codes 2907 and 4406, ~ 3000 miles in 2 years) and 6mm on the fronts (Dot Codes 0108 x2, ~1500 miles in a year). Very nice squidgy soft tyres with no damage at all :-)
