New colours and more special editions for final 500 SRT10s
Dodge used the LA autoshow last week to reveal two new colours and a couple of minor performance tweaks for the run-out year of the current generation Viper - as well as plans for a series of customer-inspired special editions.
The new colours are Toxic Orange pearl coat (pictured below) and Bright Silver metallic which are both available with the new, wider-for-2010, racing stripe design. The performance upgrades are limited to a shorter fifth gear ratio for all versions, which cuts the 0-200mph acceleration time by 14secs (that's what the press release says), while ACR models get a shorter-throw shifter and re-profiled rear spoiler with new end plates to improve yaw downforce.
Toxic Orange
Dodge plans to shift 500 SRT10s in the model's run-out year, prior to the introduction of its 2012 model-year replacement - which should hit US showrooms in 2011.
To help gee up interest we've been told to expect a slew of special editions, the first of which was the (already announced) Viper 1.33 designed to celebrate the Laguna Seca production car record lap, while the second is the new Viper Voodoo revealed at the LA show last week.
Viper Voodoo edition - 10 will be built
This all black machine with a red-outlined graphite stripe is the personal style statement of Dodge brand president Ralph Gilles - he owns the first one, and another 10 cars will be built for customers.
According to Gilles, the rest of the final year's production will feature an array of special editions reflecting feedback and requests from 'the Viper nation' of customers.
Next up will be a Snakeskin Green edition "and then we're going to start taking some votes, talking to our owners and see what they want. We're really going to have a good time with this", says Gilles.
