Spud the trackday Warrior
Discussion
had a great day on sat with Spud at Bedford Autodrome in his Monaro, first visit for both of us and the first track visit for the big V8 (a couple of foot longer than a viper) what a fab place, 3.8 miles per lap the longest in the UK also with the longest straight apparantly 1km long, we were touching 130mph along it. best venue in the UK weve been to !!
loads of run off with no barriers so nothing to hit if you came off the super smooth tarmac, which some did as it rained in the morning and was a while drying off.
the usual selection of nice cars on track, R8,GTR,GT3's,M3's and a mixture of older but fast vehicles the Monaro ran faultlesly all day and proved to be some good fun with the traction control turned off.
The day was very well organised, and all went smoothly

enforced 101db, no 2nd chance if they pull your out
Spud has a sports exhaust and headers, so he got some supertraps which bolded on over the stock tips, they knocked the dbs from 108 to 101, and 98 with extra glass fibre measured 500mm at 45 degrees away
we spotted the noise meters on track after a few laps so no full throttle by them just incase

i think any viper with a sporty'ish exhaust may struggle to make any track day as it stands in the UK, unless you can some how silence it
they said in the morning briefing the limit is enforced no messing around or warning, after chatting to a marshall he said its all monitored and linked direct to the council. They even mentioned no drifting due to the extra tyre squeel that produces.
having said that i didnt hear of anyone being removed from the track
if you have the use of another car this maybe suitable

Spuds fitted some pretty trick adjustable aftermarket suspension, he started off on a soft setting for the rain in the morning to help the grip, and as the track dried through out the day he kept tightening it up
it can all be adjusted really quick in less than 20 seconds with a simple turn of small knobs the size of a 5p coin from under the bonnet and in the boot
it wasnt on the highest setting, ending up on about 7 out of 10 i recall, 10 being the hardest/maximum setting
some new tyres were on, which he was impresssed with. The AP racing brake kit isnt standard.
Spud averaged 6mpg for the day and got through about £100 of unleaded, though the last 6000 road miles the average has been an impressive 27 ! they have a petrol station on site at Bedford, 115p per litre

fitted quieter exhaust for odiham's 105 limit and found tvrs with straight thrus rasping round when i go there - not enforced then. so long as there is some form of silencer element (and/or cat), i think you'd be fine there. next one: this sunday.
