Please see my posting on the Corvette site!

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=71287&f=100&h=0

I spoke to Steve Kingshot about this last night and he is up for it.

The 1000km race is part of the Le Mans series, the Hockenheim bit is Corvettes and Vipers racing at Hockenheim and also a show and shine for Corvette / Viper owners.

Please let me know if you are interested in going as it would be great to have a convoy of Corvettes and Vipers heading from England to Germany.

Tiss gonna be a right blast down the Autobahns and not worrying about blue lights in the rear view.

With this trip and Elvington it could be one of the best months of 2004.

The route to Hockenheim will include about a 150 mile stretch of lovely German Autobahn.....

.....should be enough to settle a few scores!!

I wonder if Steve will be taking No.91, he might need another driver, ME !! Ashame that part would be over in less than an hour, for the vipers at least Scores to be settled I cant think of any that havent be proven before sorry couldnt resist

seriously though, it would be nice to see a few side by side rolling take offs at around 30 mph against some vettes

What sort of total costs would this trip be likely to run to, tunnel crossing, fuel, race tickets, accomidation etc?

Hi Nad,

Plans are coming together.....

Leave UK Friday 9th of July, Eurotunnel a.m. then drive to Hockenheim, stopping for lunch at Leuven in Belgium (home of Stella Artois). Stay at a hotel in Hockenheim.
Saturday at Hockenheim doing/watching events including drag racing, slalom etc. Again stay in Hockenheim.
Sunday is a choice. Either stay at Hockenheim for 2nd day of Viper/Vette meeting or go to Nurburgring for LMES 1000km race. (I am going to Nurburgring, then stay near Nurburg on the Sunday night). Leisurely drive back thru Belgium/France on Monday for late afternoon Eurtunnel back to the UK.
Obviously if you wanted to skip the Sunday night and head for the UK on Sunday you could.

Eurotunnel (cost if you book at the moment is £113 return)
Hotel x3 nights about £50 per night.
Race Tickets? I don't know yet how much, but not expensive say £50 total.
Fuel? Depends how fast you wanna burn it! Total distance from Calais back to Calais will be about 850 miles, so you can work it out.
Food say £100, Beer £1000 ?

I am budgeting £500 for the whole weekend and that is for one car and 2 people, obviously 2 cars would add to the Eurotunnel and fuel costs, but the hotel rooms are per room.

If you go to the Nürburgring, you *must* have a drive on the track. No dates published yet for 2004, but would be good if its open on Monday?

Hi Viper Paul,

sorry I haven't come back to you sooner.....

regarding contacting the German/Swiss Viper President, please do. I have been in contact with the President of the SCCI (Swiss Corvette Club International) and he said we would be very welcome and that he will give me details of the event as soon as they are finalised.

If you know if any other countries in Europe with Vipers then get them to come too.

according to michelin maps <a href="http://www.viamichelin.com">www.viamichelin.com</a> it 600 miles from Somerset to Hockenheim, so thats around 12 tanks there and back for a certain blue/white GTS !

Using Expedia, the price for 2 nights at either the Ramada or the Achat hotels in Hockenheim works out to be about £70 for the 2 nights (£35 per night). It is even cheaper at the Ramada if there are 3 of you to a room as this is the price for a double with 2 singles in the same room!

www.expedia.co.uk/pub/agent.dll?qscr=htfv&itid=&itdx=&itty=&from=f

If you want to go let me know and I will book the rooms or if you want to do it yourself then please do so and let me know.

Checkout the Eurotunnel train times I (and the other vetters are booking).

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=72658&f=100&h=0

You might want to book an earlier outbound as we don't want to have to wait for all of those slow Viper drivers at the lunch stop
