Hi Guys,

Got hold of an 'Accelerometer' which measures HP/0-60mph/¼ mile/G Force, etc. To get accurate readings, you have to enter the weight of the vehicle. The Viper hand book says 1518kg, the VIN plate says 1740kg. The Accelerometer manual suggests the the VIN plate reading would be the total weight including a full compliment of passengers and says to deduct 82kg per passenger missing, but I'm still 60kg out - would this be a full tank of fuel?

Had some fun today trying it out, but the roads were a bit slippery and kept losing traction in 1st and 2nd gear. Add to that the layby was paved rather than tarmac, it made it difficult pulling out - still, managed 4.87s on one run, so should be able to get 4.5s on a good one.

I recall reading specs somehwere that said 1250 kgs or thereabouts.

The VIN plate would usually indicate a fully laden wehicle. eg passengers and fuel etc. the max weight the vehicle would be expected to be.

Although doing another search on the web would seem to indicate around 1500kgs Kerb weight. ie, fuel etc, but no passengers.

I've always worked on about 1680 kg with fluids and driver............1250kg...that would be one of those lightweight Granadas youre thinking of Stevie

1250kg weight - that would be Evo magazine. A Competition Coupe might weight that much.

1580kg/1535kg is quite light, however.

hi Viper-Larry,

Is it a G-Tech Competition Pro?

I got one recently in the US, it will be interesting to see how accurate it is once I get it on the strip next year.

I suggest you set it up at race weight and take it to a public weighbridge. It cost me £6 to find out that my Corvette with me, my crash helmet and 1/4 tank of fuel in it weighs 1510kg (or 1440kg for the vehicle alone).

An Evo 8 weighs about 1540kg, and that car has a 2 litre 4 cylinder engine with a rubbish interior. A Viper has an 8 litre V10 engine (mmm) and a nice (well certainly and definately nicer) interior. Puts things into perspective and it says it all really.

The Evo also has a cast iron block and 4wd, although not really sure where the weight comes from, as they arent that hot.
Previous models were a lot lighter.

Lightweight Granada ?? I wish.
get yours down to teh weightbirdge in Larne Joel, for a proper confirmation. Just drive on, drive off. Its free. I usually go at night. The weight just appears in front of you.

Either way, the Viper isnt as big a car in the flesh, as it would seem in pictures. I was very surprised first time I saw one at how small it was.

Stevie, could you put one wheel at a time on that weighbridge.............use it for a rough and ready cornerweighting?

No. Its mainly designed for HGV vehicles so the platform is pretty big. You could possibly to the RHS of the car like that, but the control station is to the right. Cant remember if there is a guard rail to the side or not.
Take a drive down and check. Its just past KFC on the way to the boat beside the short stretch of dual carriageway.

Demon Tweeks sell some corner weight guages from about £130+vat ( heavier rating is more expensive ). You measure each wheel individually. Basically a big lever arm with a guage that lifts/acts on the rim. They are mainly designed for single seaters, but see no reason why they wouldnt work for a normal car.
A full on set of digital scales from DT is about £850+vat for cheapest set.
