Recently been looking at a 2000 GTS with a friend, problem is it has had a bump. The airbags have deployed and during the fantastic repair, have been removed as opposed to replaced. Now my friend has now problem about having a car without airbags (we all used to not so long ago)....The only question is, would this model also have seatbelt pre tensioners and can you turn off the air back warning light on the dash?

Any ideas,

Thanks,

Matt.

lets hope its not the dreaded silver with blue stripes bodged repair, airbags are very costly to replace perhaps why they missed them out (around £3K i recall) No doubt the airbag light can be turned off by removing a fuse. If its the silver car I can send you pictures before the repair was carried out

dont believe there are seat belt pre-tensioners

OK, i'll come clean..I personally haven't seen it yet. My friend has been to see it, fallen for it and asked me to find out this info..(he isn't online). I'm off to see it before the weekend, based on his description of fantastic repair etc, etc, but you guys have got me worried

As it is indeed silver!! So which bodged silver one do you all know about?? What is the bodge? and how bad was the damage? and where in the country was it?

Thanks....You could be saving a close friend from making a huge mistake.

Unless he's getting it really cheap, it was up for 50K about 12 months ago and has been at 40 for some time which is to much for a bent car, espicially when you can get a straight car for that money which isnt on the insurance registar, if you ever want to sell it on you'll have a problem

We know the original owner Chris who had the car from new, he came to a couple of club meets with it, unfortunately he got struck at a junction and suffered front end damage. The car then went on a internet auction, and the garage who had the winning bid didnt quite know how best to repair it

We met Chris only 2 weekends ago at the NEC show, and he said the car "should be avoided". No doubt this car has had chassis damage, the bonnet looked beyond repair, just about everything on a viper is expensive to replace

I can give you more info off line if you need it, at least your going in with your eyes open

Thanks, I'll have to assess it fully, and perhaps get the big boots on for some realistic negotiations if He goes ahead with it.

Could also be the other one with Canadian Wheels should be a 99 but has the parts for a 98 fitted ie 17" wheels and no chrome trim.

Have a look on our board there is a nice 2000 red/solver GTS

most of the front end damage to the nose will push out,
in the other pics the passenger side airbag has gone to

Just to keep you all up to date, my friend did buy the silver with blue stripes one (yes the accident damaged one). It has actually been very well repaired with no obvious areas to fault. Any way, thanks for everyones advice (particularly Vipers) and hopefully you'll see the car at some shows,

Thanks,

Matt.

Matt,

Did your friend get a geometry check and engineers report before buying? If not, I hope that he has very, very deep pockets.

Peter.

PS: What has he done about the Airbags? How does he think that he is going to sell the car on, when the time comes, with these missing??

Don't know about alignment checks etc, but I'd assume so...He's no mug.

As for the airbags he has just priced some up and going to order them after xmas, and I intend to help him fit them...but why the major concern about resale? he bought it without them, is it inconceivable that no one else would (I do apprieciate that more people would be interested if they were fitted).

Youll find the airbags can sourced in the USA a lot chaper than UK prices, try www.partsrack.com or ebay, they do appear on there occasionally

Matt,

You state that your friend is no mug!!!!! After being told on this web site by everyone, including the previous owner, not to buy, he still has. I rest my case.

Forget the air bags for the moment, I pose the question, is your friends Viper "TRUE"? I.E. IS IT BENT, from the accident??????

As there are only a few people who can carry out this checking task (1 in Birmingham and 2 in London, as far as I know), I suggest that your friend gets a move on and gets the chassis checked out asap. If all is OK, all is well and good. If not, your friend has a pig-in-a-poke, will start shredding tyres like a politician trying to get rid of evidence, and he will never be able to sell it on, airbags or not.

Once again, you and your friend were told NOT to BUY this CAR. I rest my case, again!!!!!!!!

Was'nt Silver/Blue stripes on a GTS an option on a 98 model only.
Take it the car has been re-registered as a 2000.

Whats the story here ?

Silver ran into '99 production as well hence the later style wheels, but not 2000 the colours for that year were red, black and steel grey. It most likely made it over to the UK in 2000 and registered then
