Well did enjoy the Sky 3 program on TOTB 2 quite well presented.
Must say to all the Viper owners you all flew the flag at its best, last year I did feel that they came prepared to laugh at big American cars which don't go round corners and all of you showed its not true....'Good Job' especially on the handling course where Nad showed em all the way to do it.
The guy in the Dax must have been gutted his fast and nimble Viper closed down by a simple VVVVVIPER.
I must make the effort for next year.

Did I spot a bit of flapping bodywork on Nadine's high speed runs ? Just behind the front wheel on the passenger's side. I've not seen Vipers running at top speed before but I doubt that its normal. The drag from that might have robbed you of a bit of speed - and even more points !
Anyway, well done, and the Basingstoke posse spent last night clustered round the telly working out how we're going to improve and beat you guys next year.

[quote=viper paul]Would love to see Nad run against a jet in the UK.
Hmmmmmmmm..........maybe we could get something worked out for PistonFest 2004??????
There's this bloke I know in Stratford with a jet airplane & a private airstrip.......etc etc (no B.S)
I'll make a call on Monday...this could be fun????
Any comments Nad?

I would love to! I've had a desire to race a jet aircraft for ages, several years ago tried to sort out such a race in aid of charity etc, some of the millitry airfield bases I approached were keen too, but it got so far and then it couldn't go ahead due to airfield safety personell putting the boot in.
They have run such an event in the USA for the last two years now, great fund-raiser besides great fun!

Just done a bit of calculation, in a vacuum it would take just over 8 seconds and a cliff over 1200 feet high to get a Volvo to exceed 180mph on planet earth.
Of course there aren't any cliffs with convenient vacuums nearby so aerodynamic drag would come into play, and knowing that Volvos and bricks have similar aerodynamic properties it would take a considerably higher cliff or obliging transport aircraft to achieve 3 miles a minute. Always assuming that the terminal velocity of a Volvo is over 180mph anyway !
I just put "acceleration" and "vacuum" into Google and would you believe it ? Although the first four and the last four results mention National Physical Laboratory and other scientific institutions, the 5th item in the list talks about Volvos !!!
Chucking Volvos off cliffs is obviously a subject for much academic study !

Hi Nad,
How's naughty?
News about the jet- it turns out that the jet my pal owns is a 1959 ex-RAF trainer, and is capable of 285mph top speed, with aerobatic capabilities. The take off speed however is relatively slow in comparison, so you & naughty would win that part no problem.
I'll keep my ears open for other options in the future though, who knows , with a few helpful contacts wihin the RAF, somebody may say- "sure, I'll put you up against my F16 anyday"- just like in the States.....so for now, it's a no-point-excercise, but this may change in the future.
I'll let you know if anything comes up.

We've got a couple of Hawker Hunters. They'll easy crack 450kts at sea level. Top speed is something like 700mph. They don't accelerate that fast though so would prolly take a pasting. One's at Kemble and one's at Exeter ( www.hawkerhunter.co.uk ). Dunno if you could do something like this as you'd need dual runways to do a side-by side which means a military airfield basically, plus it costs best part of a grand to get the thing off the ground so might be a bit expensive. Shorty raced a Cerbera against a Tornado out in Germany a few years back. Lost to it in the wet then beat it in the dry IIRC.
