boosted, to crash 5th or 6th gear or both on this car is pretty easy. It just takes a little time :-)
In my opinion, the critial situation is to kick the car hard at lower rpm in 5th or 6th gear. You have such a tremendous torque on the transmission shaft, because the engine wants to make the car move but cannot when you try to rev up from 1500 or 2000 /min
(respect the power and torque diagram of the viper engine. It is not usual that you have such a lot power from down below).
Another more often critial situation is when you are motorway racing (where do you need 6th else?) and throw out the clutch too fast, you just punt the journals. It's like 'crack' and gone. Especially the 6th is critical because it should be a fuel-saving gear. Means: it is a lot loooonger transmitted / good punch of power to a quite immovable victim.
My advice is to drive the 4th gear good and then move to 5th, so you have 3k/min or more. If you have no problem with buying new trannys every 20000km, throw the clutch out like you don't care.
When you look around, you can see that the Tremec (Borg Warner) T-56 tranny is a heavy duty transmission. You can find in older v8 musclecars and even newer ones (transam etc..).
The problem is, that the original T-56 transmission is a 4 gear one. The 5th and 6th gear were adapted on a shaft that is connected with some kind of tenons or journals. I can't explain too well in English. It's "Zapfen" / "verzahnte Welle" in German. At this spot, the complete shaft, consisting of two parts, is quite weak. The adapted 5th and 6th gear break oftenly. This is definitely a children's disease, and it will always be. 1-4 is no prob.
But it is easy fixed. We have people who make it for about 1000 EUR (the gasket kit, you would need when you just take it apart and built it together again costs about 300 - 600 USD, depending on where you buy it).
It would be interesting to know if they changed something on the current SRT or ACR regarding the transmission.
I can't imagine else.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
