Must admit having prevously owned a kit car, I just dont get a Viper replica Ok The shape is simmilar outside but engine and interior is aufull £14K is a lot of money for what? A plastic shape with a V8?
The car I prevously owned was a Dax Tojerio, I never claimed it to be a AC Cobra, However It was in the true sprit of the original cobra concept as it had a TVR Tuscan challenge series RACE Engine fitted Not the most reliable though

Hi Paul, to answer your question, for your own personal use, you can call your car whatever you like, I'm sure you call your SRT a viper. It is only if you were a company, that you cannot use the name, such as pistonheads/atlantic.

So what is the differance between a Cobra replica and a Viper replica? why did you not go out and buy the real thing? and what is the true spirit of the original engine got to do with a TVR engine??? If i'm not mistaken the original had a big block 427 all american engine. I bet when you opened the bonnet people thought, what's that in there? But it's a replica so you can do whatever you want,
It's not just the buying costs that you need to take into account, the running costs are much less with someting like a chevy V8, take a head gasket set Viper $1000? chevy $50, headers viper $1500? chevy $150, Bonnet $15000? replica 1000? you have to remember you are lucky men to have enough money to buy and run a viper or other exotica, there are loads of people that love cars but do not have the same kind of money.
The other thing about replicas/kitcars is the enjoyment of building them and have a warm glow when driving them knowing that they build it. £14000 is maybe alot of money to put out on that car now that prices for original ones have dropped altough you would still have to pay bout twice that for a GTS. But it doesn't neccessarily cost that to build and could be spread over a period of time during the build.
The other thing about that GTS replica is the fact that it is almost 1/3 less weight than the original GTS. This makes a big differance to the handling and braking and the fact that it doesn't have as many horsepower.

AC Cars was a small british company producing the 'Ace' Carol Shelby/Ford was looking for a car that they could put the new Ford RACE engine into to beat Ferrari. They Came up wuth the name 'Cobra' which I beleive is owned by Shelby. AC Cars would probally be nothing if it had'nt been for this Racing partnership! I personally dont like kit cars that have the letters AC on them, as they are not produced by AC! The point I was trying to make about the concept is, taking a RACE engine and putting it in a lightweight body ( the sprit of the original Cobras).As to the question why didnt I get the real thing, at the time 2 of my friends both had red Viper RT10s producing 400bhp, I could not afford a Viper at the time but found the Dax Tojerio advertised in Top Marques stating engine output '400bhp' As soon as the engine fired up into life in the showroom all rationall thoughts went straight out of the window and I became a member of the 400 club
