Tyre Question, buying in US
Discussion
a tyre in your luggage thats plain crazy have you felt the weight one one guess you wont be bringing back any clothes or a supercharger, ask Nad
dont think it really makes economical sense, £220 for rear plus posting from tire/parts rack to where ever you want, then excess baggage, nothing to declare
heck your near France, day trip to calais in a van
... michelins are made in france you know

I've considered it, even went as far as checking with the airline once that there would be no problems with checking one in, whilst they said it would be ok i wasn't 100% convinced the check in agent would have the same opinion. never actually got as far as checking the size and weight though but on most airlines to the US you get 2x 50-70lbs allowance. Big worry would be being told you couldn't check them in at the airport as you would either have to sort something else out sharpish, miss the flight or dump them, none of which would be desirable.
We did get one for the vette flown over for about £80 when we could only find one other in the UK and needed 2 urgently.
What the hell happened to them though there was loads of tread on them when we looked in Ca.
I think that was a front but the rears didn't stand out and looks similar in this pic.

I am selling my place in Florida and may be bringing back my furniture in a container, if there is a significant saving then why not a bulk buy ? and I will ship them in the container
But there is a but the housing market is crap at the moment it may take a few months +, also the shipping would be by sea 4 weeks
Let me know what you think I will also be bringing some of that 10W30 stuff

Im up for that Neil, lets see if anybody else is intrested?
To awnser your question Dave, the centres of the rear tyres are almost down to the limmit mark! perhaps they may have been over inflated in there lifetime, the edges are Ok and the other rear tyres on the original wheels have more tread on them so if push comes to shove i could always get the tyres swopped over onto the Black wheels! But its not been me thats worn them out

Bugger, sorry i didn't catch that, i should have known better as that was the exact problem we had on the vette, quick mot pre check looked ok but the centre was down to the limit. He must have fairly well over inflated those though as they look almost new at the edges. So has anybody bought tyres while on holiday in the us and bought them back with there luggage? What was the extra charge?
Yes I have brought back 2 tyres for a Corvette from when I was on holiday in the US. I had very little other luggage. The airline were fine with it and I wasn`t charged anything extra. It was about 5 years ago. Gassing Station | Vipers | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
