There has been a fair bit of speculation on the VCA site over the last few weeks regarding the potential that no further Vipers will be built as of 2009...

According to CNN, Chrysler is offering buyout Packages to workers at the Conner plant......

Could this possibly mean that the rumours are true?? (I hope not...)

Been there in January and saw and heard what Herb Helbig and his successors had to say and how they said it...not good at all.

If I can trust my gut feeling, it´s over.

I don't see any reason to me more concerned, if anything less so as they seem to be managing cost savings. The article just says they are asking for volunteers from the whole of CX in metro Detroit. there is bound to be some at CAAP that are nearing retirement or just fed up, if they offered it everywhere and not CAAP i would be more concerned that CAAP as a whole was for the chop a month or so later.

My opinion counts for nought, but they would be barmy to kill the viper now. they have just spent loads on the new engine and i doubt they were short sighted enough to build something that cant easily be re-certified at the end of next year. that is probably one of the reasons we haven't seen a HP increase in the ACR as that would just make tings harder and I'm sure the article in the VCA mag indicated they hadn't really done a whole lot with the VVT so there is sure to be scope there to make things better quite cheaply now they have spent the money getting the system into the engine.

what they really need to do it get the viper out there racing more and winning prestige events like LM.

ONE of many concerns is related to the rear bumper....it is not certified for 2009 cars.

The complete rear (crash safety) would have to be re-designed.

Plus when people like Dan Craggin start saying they think its over then it could well be, rumour has it they lost money on every Viper they sold but wanted/needed to stay 'King of the Hill' and that costs, both GM with the Corvette and Dodge.

My 10 cents is they will become gas guzzling creatures from the past look at the Cobra, which people will be made to feel so politically incorrect to drive.

On the plus side it would at least keep our vehicles nearly the best of the bunch and stop all these wcensoredkers from bringing in cheap or even crashed repaired Vipers.

Well I know one viper that will never sell evry time it comes up for sale someones bound to phone the magazine and 'Trading Standards'
