Hi, just bought my first Viper and wondered if there are any meets that you guys attend?

I have to say I see what you see in these cars. There is a hell of a lot of power for the £ and it really caught me off guard.

Hope to meet up with some of you soon.

That is my car! I bought it on Ebay. It was a private sale though and not a dealer.

I had the car inspected before I handed over the cash and everything was ok.

Who inspected it ? Is it too late to back out ?
The seller has himself admitted the frame was bent. Maybe that's been straightened out now ? (Certainly didn't look so from the pics).
That same car is on essexamericanimports - see the "who's is this" thread - as well as a couple of other cars that have appeared on ebay.
I checked it out on carfax for a friend that was interested, with the results you have seen.

Can you confirm I had the right VIN no ? Does the VIN in the thread below match yours ?

Yes thats my VIN number. The AA inspected the car so I might have some come back with them if needed. As for a twisted frame, the seller did say he had another GTS that he sent back to the US as it was damaged.

Oh. Then I'm afraid to have to tell you Carfax reports your car as being a write-off. You are getting the car cheap, so it's up to you, but I think I'd leave it alone. Just as I advised my mate that was interested in the car.
Then again an insurance write-off on a Viper doesn't have to mean serious damage. Body panels (a new bonnet / hood) for example are damned expensive.

Looks like the Snake's bitten again.banghead Ive been right where you are now and its not a nice place to be! You can get in contact with your local trading standards office on 08454 040506, How did you pay for the car? If you used a credit card you have some protection there. If you used Pay Pal through eBay you should be covered! Who checked out the car? Was it a company? You can also contact the DVLA. The Dept you need is VC7, you can contact them on 0870 240 0010 or you can Fax them on 01792 782793 You could print off the information on the car from the PH forum 'who is this', page for page I would also talk to your local police, I did and got a reference No for my case! You can also contact the Dept of Motor Vechiles in the USA (the detials you will be able find on the Carfax report) they are normally very helpfull and might be able to tell you more about the salvage title on the car! Gutted for you mate, If I can be of any more help PM me. If you wanted to read my tales of woe search, 'NEW VIPER MEMBER'frown

Check with the AA. I am not sure there is much in the way of come-back. For inspections, they seem to know as much about cars as my sister does... and she thought her Clio was a great car.

Car looks fine to me and it drives really well. The HPI report I got for it was all ok and AA confirmed it was so, that's fine for me. I paid cash for the car, but am happy with it anyway. Most 10 year old Vipers will have had scrapes and knocks by now. Thanks for all the advice though.

Steve, the HPI only shows the cars history since it came to the UK (some time after February this year). Most 10 year old Vipers will have had scrapes and knocks ? I'm sure a fair few will have. But a scrape and a knock is not a write-off.

Anyway - hope you're happy, and remain to be happy with the car.

Hi Steve, see you found the Forum ok. How is the car? I have just logged on and can hardly believe what I am reading!

I am not a car dealer as you know so I am not sure why there is so much confusion.

Essex American Imports had the car on there site as they offered to try and sell it for me when I bought my Venom.

I will check with the guy in the US that I bought it from regarding the mileage and accident history.

Hope all is well and enjoy the car
