Hi guys,

Like many others, I have been playing around with TVR's for the last few years and have now decided to buy one of uncle Sam's finest (after I get my Christmas bonus). I have narrowed it down to either a Viper GTS, Mustang or maybe even a Ram SRT10. Although, as long as I can find a good one, the Viper is favourite.

Anyway, just wondered if some of you experts can provide some answers for me?

The TVR's road tax is quite cheap as due to the low volume production they are taxed as PLG rather than on the CO2 emissions. Are Viper's taxed in the same way as TVR's due to their limited number in the UK or will I get stung for the full £300 (£400 next year).

I've read some of the horror stories with regards to Viper purchases and as such I'm thinking about buying from a specialist dealer such as Atlantic, would you guys recommend them? (PM if you prefer)

Finally, if I did stumble across a good one privately, is there a Viper expert that offers any pre-purchase inspections and get all the VIN checks/CarFax checks done for me?

I'm quite flexible on colour, year and price (sub-40k) but just want to make sure the experience is a good one not some kind of nightmare!

Many thanks

Lee

There are a few vipers around at the moment and with the $ being so weak at the moment dont rule out importing one from the US...

Atlantic are very friendly and down to earth not your typical sales man...

They have a nice 2000 GTS there at the moment..

Down to earth reply......you will either love it, and no other car ever will ever quicken your pulse like a Viper, or hate it and be one of the 'Just Passin Through' people.

Remember it has no traction control. only a few have ABS and it will not make up for what you lack as a driver.

Its one of the most exciting (you may need new trouser sometimes) car I have ever driven, having just done 25 rides in the thing people say things like' its so quick', it goes 'round corners' and everone looks at this car.

Be a slight show off...............Viper does what it says on the tin!!

Check its had the recall work done and the body is straight with quite good gaps and you will not look back.

PM me if you want a number for a chat

You've definitely come to the right place for advice... The collective minds on here really know their stuff, many owners having owned several Vipers during their time and of all generations.

Can definitely recommend Atlantic Sports, James is known to us all and is a really nice guy.

Hope all goes well, you know where we are.
All the best

If your thinking of getting a Viper from the states make sure you get a CARFAX check done on the car. As many people will tell you, the VIN number is all important on an American car. With the VIN number you can find out the correct speck of your car, weather it had to have any recall work etc. Over hear in England most people get an HPI check done on a car and thats that, but with a Viper thats just not good enough, as the HPI check only covers whats happened to the car in this country and if there is any outstanding finance on the car. I found out the hard way and it took me several months to get my monies back. The Guys on this site are brilliant, and I can only thank them again for what could have been a very costly mistake. I found a good site to look on is www.vast.com/cars/used-Dodge.Viper/ also www.theviperregistry.org Do your research carefully ask as mainy questions as you can, and get somebody who realy knows vipers to look over the car for you. GOOD LUCK thumbup
