sounds like the skip shift thingy, if you are doing some combination of speed and throttle that the computer equates to "driving like a granny" then because of some boffins believing in global warming the US EPA insist that "driving like a granny" would be better for the environment if you miss a few gears out.

this can be defeated in numerous ways

1) don't drive like grandma
2) buy the $90 resistor that confuses the ECU
3) reprogram the ECU/buy a Roe performance ECU

CAGS eliminator is a well worthwhile mod, takes a minute to fit. The skip shift indicator light still illuminates with this mod whereas the flash downloads eliminate this as well.

I have a large pack of resistors and the instructions cost me 0.10p to do the mod, PM me your address and I will send you a copy if not a guy who belongs to the VCA on ebay sells a kit with the correct plug think he charges 19 dollars and well worth it.

Your car must be a US car as this was not fitted on UK/Euro cars

No not standard my GTS (red and silver) had no resistor pack fitted in the g/box and I had it from new and it never had the skip shift light or the lock out.

I always assumed that this was the major factor in the Euro ECU, perhaps my assumption was .......wronggetmecoat so I thought KPM speedo = Euro ECU unless it was just the German cars as both mine were German.

My R/T which was also Euro had no skip shift either.
