been back and forward to the local DVLA to get them to issue me with a 02 plate and after....
A)the local chrysler dealer issued me a letter confirming the car was first registered in late august 2002
and
B)a regular viper forum member here managed to get a copy of the chrysler vehicle record showing the build date (mid january 2002) and in service date (august 2002) thumbup
and
C) i returned my V5 showing the date of first registration they had entered being 31st december 2002 (their data entry error)
and
D) being told by chrysler USA they won't issue any information they have on a car after it's been exported
and
E) chrysler UK only being able to supply the same details as B).... (for £30 fee)

....it looks like i won't be getting an 02 or later plate.

they don't accept info from dealers,
they won't accept the date on the V5 (was bit of a blag tho biggrin ),
and it's now been confirmed that it's not normal practise to accept the date of first registration to determine the car's age (only the manufacture date)
.
.
i don't see any other way of getting a 02 plate on my 02 viper....i'm stuck with the present 51 plate, that i hoped would only be temporary and went with just to get the car on the road.
anyone else experience the same situation before?
(anyone know a friendly DVLA officer?!)

sorry to hear that, I'm sure there are some similar threads on the corvette forum, may be worth a search over there.

Had a bit of a argument with a private importer, as he wanted to import a Viper and sell it on to make a profit, he wanted me to contact his DVLA regarding the plate on his car as he wanted a 54 plate they would only give him a 50.

Got to say having been involved in Military stuff before the rules have always been the same, which is date of manufacturer proven by either door sticker, reference book against vin, or other proof is acceptable.

Original registration date is not, neither is a CARFAX accepted in the UK as any form of proof other than vehicle history.

Some DVLA offices are missinformed and you may get away with murder, but if you push it they will check the rule book.

they didn't like the door sticker - but i guess since it was before march 02 it doesn't matter anymore. now curious about what happened to the car after coming out of the factory mid january and it's date of first registration, 7 months later!?

Photo of the door sticker and the Vin and I would have given you a letter confirming the age.

For such on modern vehicles DVLA will only accept main manufacture info, in the case of our Vipers over here, offical Chrysler HQ UK confirmation. They won't except dealer or club letters :-( normally it's all on a COC document, but in the case of personal imports that's why you have the SVA etc instead.

My original GTS was also six months until first registration.

Still at least its not like the old days in the UK where your car sat in a field for months
