Yes, a bummer all round. But I'm relatively unscathed and it could have been FAR worse given where I came unstuck. Luckily I was taking it really easy. But the combination of freshly wet surface and the apex of a corner being on the brow of a hill caused the car to go into a slide that I couldn't correct before the bridge wall appeared in front of me! I'm very lucky that the car never went over the bridge; I don't think I'd be writing this now if that had happened. Think the car's history too... But I may have some spare parts now! I'm pretty sure the engine's in good shape... It's fairly high spec for a UK car. I'll wait to see what the insurance assessors say though...Glad he is OK....
Glad your ok,
Sounds like a typical snake bite.
All the newbie viper owners should take this as a warning that we are entering a very tricky phase of the year for viper ownership and there is quite often one of these around this time, i guess Hamish got the jump on us putting out a warning with him being up north and all, with the cold weather being a bit sooner for him.
But for all the others, Take care out there, the road surfaces are cooling down and the snakes loose a lot of grip if its cold and damp. Add to that with the air temp dropping we get a few extra ponies to make matters worse. The characteristics of vipers really change in these conditions and the playing around that was well withing limits in the summer goes quickly wrong in the cold.

after seeing the pics Hamish it will unfortunately be an insurance write off i've seen enough crashed vipers over here that were written off with far less damage, the bonnet and nose is enough without the other parts, and no doubt chassis damage to
though you could get replica panels off Colin and get the chassis sorted, its all repairable at a cost

Used parts from Paul at Scharf Automotive are very resonabl;e as well
And ship them through Steve at moving parts..
BUT GET THE CAR CHECKED OUT FIRST......
Good luck

Hi Hamish, sorry to see your pics... :-( ...if you do go for repair, speak to Nad, she's had many sorted ie computer aided jig out to proper specs within 2%. I guess we are at the wrong end of the country to help with local jig, but can offer experience and advice if of help. We were racing at Knockhill in July, it rained and the snake was a handful! Did you have a good suspension set up 'pre-oops', as they just will not handle if not!

I hadn't changed the suspension set-up and I don't think the previous owner in California had either. The car had fantastic handling in the dry but in the wet it was just scary. I would never take it out in the wet but had to on Sunday to move it from my folk's place to my new house near Aberdeen. Once I hear back from the insurance assessors (and I'm very apprehensive about this!), I'll be able to decide what I want to do. Cheers to all for their support! I've just got some information from the insurance assessors - estimated cost of repair is £37k! Nearly £11k for the bonnet alone!! I know they've got to go for original parts but this seems ridiculous - high quality after market parts are a fraction of the cost and would prevent a rare and classic car getting broken for parts. And they don't appear too keen to allow me to buy it back salvage...
