Ok so I have just re tightened the header bolts after installing new gaskets under the bellanger headers and took the car out for a quick shakedown spin. Didn’t overly hold back on the throttle so I drove the viper pretty hard. Popped the hood when I got back to check everything was ok and as it is starting to get dark now I noticed the headers were glowing red. Now I don’t usually go poking around under the hood when its dark so don’t really know if this is normal, so has anyone else witnessed this and if so did the motor blow up shortly afterwards or is it going to be ok?

I have a nice pic of my se7en headers glowing a nice cherry red....admittedly not a viper, so of no use to you at all, but looks impressive all the same!
If I could figure out how to upload a pic, I would share it.

only seen it once before on a GTS (the guy Phil who lived by me) after a Roe SC install, needless to say in his words it went 'nuclear'

after a couple of runs the hi-flow cats melted and spat molten metal out the exhaust, i was following and got a lovely but expensive fire work show, the burnt out cats were so hot it started to set the sills on fire !

Had this in the vette and it is perfectly normal after even a short "spirited" drive.

I prefer that answer to Neils.

Hmm the glowing was pretty dim, i probably wouldn't have seen it if it hadn't been getting dark and i had to move into the darker garage to really see it. Other than the that the car seems to be running real strong after putting in new plugs and wires, the old plugs didn't show any problems. Guess it could just be a bit of re learning on the computer after the changes.

Probably give it a gentler run tomorrow and see how it goes.

Phils problem was put down to running to lean, he put it down to the VEC2 going haywire and adjusting fuel mixtures on its own accord !

water on the slabs was from the hosepipe, the heat from this was so intense it buckled the doors and slightly melted the rear bumper
