Interested in views on the value of second hand SRT10's. The market seems to be in free fall.

I have been looking to buy an SRT 10 (ideally in black and convertible) for the last 3 months and went to see a few cars. 6 weeks ago I went to test drive a car advertised on PH and put an offer £3k below his asking price and he declined - even though on the phone beforehand we discussed prices and my offer. The car is still for sale and now advertised below my offer !!

American car imports have had their 05 car for sale now for 18 months and the advertised price has dropped £7k in this period.

A car went on ebay for I think £33k recently. I heard via the grapevine that one of the auction houses had sold a couple of 2006 low mileage ex dealer demonstrators for just under £40k

Are there just no buyers for these cars? Has increased interest rates impacted this end of the market? Are buyer waiting for the 600bhp car? Are buyers getting from the US taking advantage of the strong dollar?

I want to buy a car but I am in no hurry unless a real bargain appears if prices have much further to fall. There are so few sales it seems quite hard to get a sense for a fair price. I think they possibly will fall even further towards the end of the summer as these are seasonal toys.

What do others think?

David

The car appeared ideal and I went to see deposit in hand but did not buy - price was not the reason but other things made me nervous. Don't really need to go into details here.

Global warming mate thats the problem coupled with two dollars to the pound, loads of people are inmporting American cars thinking they can make an easy buck, couple that with the previous, people fear what the government may do to the tax on large engine cars has killed the market.

Interesting isn't it take a chance and get a great car that holds its value, be one of the last to own a big engined car or do nothing.

BTW there is a black Mamba or the Copperhead for sale at present if you fancy something different, but I suspect they were bought in for a profit also.

UK cars may not also be as powerfull as I notice they have an additional exhaust box under the rear floor below the boot, this was done to get past the UK SVA noise regs, never dyno'd one but my US spec one dyno'd at 537.

If you go for one try to get or consider hi flow cats and Corsa race exhaust to reduce the cabin heat, would I buy another one.................Yes Please.

Good luck with your search I just love my Mamba.

thanks

Yep have seen the mamba advertised. I think it was also at Classics on the common in Harpenden. With the mamba was it just the interior collour to differentiate from the rest? What did they cost extra when new? In the current climate, IMO the dealer's asking price seems very high.

Hi guys , no hard sell here , but just to advise , we own the Viper Mamba, it was seen recently at the Classics on the common meet and like most people in our market of course we are trying to make a living from our cars / accessory sales biggrin
By all means come and pay us a visit , we have reveiwed the price on the car today in fact so it may be a little more appealing now, perhaps one of our learned colleagues on here can confirm just how many Mambas there are in the UK , i bet its not many , and we do have a great private plate for it too!! We are only a low volume dealer so more thane happy to just enjoy the cars and the enthusiasts that share our views!

BTW sold the GT500 Evolution , what great car that was !

spotted this earlier on the VCA froum regarding 08 prices for the new 8.4 litre 600hp model :

August 3, 2007
TO: ALL DODGE BRAND DEALERS
SUBJECT: 2008 INTRODUCTORY PRICING - DODGE VIPER SRT10

With improved airflow, bigger displacement and with variable valve timing achieved from the innovative CamInCam technology, one can see how the '08 Dodge Viper's new 8.4L V10 achieves a 90 horsepower increase from last year, but would you believe that it also gets better fuel economy?! The gas guzzler tax actually goes down for 2008 and results with '08 pricing very similar to the 2006 model year. Including this $2,100 gas guzzler tax charge and an $850 destination charge, the new 600 HP Dodge Viper SRT10 Roadster price only goes up by $350 over 2006 and the Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe actually goes down by $150! The base MSRP, before destination and
gas guzzler tax charges, is $83,145 for the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Roadster and $83,895 for the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe.

This amazing new powertrain is what will convince the Viper
enthusiast that now is the time to make that dream purchase, but once that decision is made, all they are going to talk about is what combination of the eight exterior colors, five stripe colors and five interior combinations for 2008, is right for them. Be sure to send your customers to the 360 degree exterior and interior visualizers on the SRT web site where they can try to check out every one of the seemingly endless number of possible combinations: http://www.drivesrt.com/en/dodge_viper/index.html

btw , think i know the car from the top of the thread that went real cheap, if it was a red SRT-10 sold via e bay , the car ended up in Bedfordshire and the rumour that went along with the cheap sale was that the chap who owned it was getting a divorce and he wanted to try and get as much cash in his hands as possible before the wife realised what was going on!! laugh
lucky for him a pretty wealthy businessman from the local area who also owns a RAM SRT-10 fancied tryin one out!! apparently doesnt like the car too much and may be open to offers on moving it on again!

At the weekend I was told that a dealer unloaded a brand new black unregistered SRT10 at auction for £32k +VAT. Can anyone else confirm this? Shocking if values in the trade have dropped to this level. IF it is anyone on here I would be interested in a sale.

i dont think things have quite got that bad in the market place as yet, simple fact is the car is not everyones cup of tea , as such dealers tend to have to hold onto them for quite some time for the right buyer to come along , one or two people may be getting cold feet if they have held onto one for a little while and would rather see the car gone to move back to safer ground! this would explain a spate of cars going cheap in recent months , we havent seen significant changes in the US market to create any such worries over here , i just think, as mentioned above, a good few people bought these cars to try and make quick money and its backfired on them a little - luckily we are not a high volume seller so can enjoy the car for what it is , a fantastic machine that i have always personally hankered after and when the right person comes along to take it off our hands and have as much enjoyment from it then we will see it gone , between now and then im proud and happy to keep hold of it smile

I think you are right - it is a very specialist market and whilst there clearly is more supply than demand at the moment most sellers may try the market and choose to just keep the car rather than lower the price to a level necessary to attract 'floating' buyers. That does not worry me as things do tend to reach a natural level as is the case with the previous generation cars. I am quite happy to buy in that environment as I plan on it being a keeper for a few years at least.

What does make me most nervous about completing on a purchase is because prices don't seem to have stabilised, still no sales at current prices (atleast on PH) and if, as it appears, main dealers are now 'offloading stock' ahead of winter and the 08 model then that will potentially force another readjustment on SRT10 values.

I think I am happy to wait a bit longer to see what happens.

Obviously i cant speak for other dealers , but we currently only advertise our cars on PH, we dont use any other medium to promote our vehicles, this may in hindsight not be ideal , but the costs are reasonable , we are not always worried if a car does not sell in the first weeks and the car sales is very much a small supplement to our main business , we like the buyers that come along from PH and as such we will constantly be promoting cars on here and therefore if the PH market does not bite a car can be seen here for a long time - that may not indicate that the rest fo the market is the same , some people may have cars on here as a small backup to their main advertising and then dont remove them straight away when sold! Maybe its wishful thinking smile sales are certainly slower at present due to the amount of cars available but not something we are concerned about , everytime the weekend arrives we get to use the car so why should i be worried biggrin

Providing you have the spare capital I think your attitide is spot on. Get your value out of the car by using it and enjoying it. Just for info also worth taking a look at autotrader - the same situation as PH except that the old adverts at the higher price still seem to sit there alongside the new lower priced adverts which is a bit amusing. At one point ACI had three on there at different prices for the same car ! I think two are still on there. You need to look under SRT10 and Viper to get the full picture.

I have been following the market very closely since May. I do know of one car that has sold that was on autotrader - it was taken in part exchange by a Porsche specialist who sent it to a partner outlet in Germany who managed to sell it there. It had not sold after some months of trying in the UK. There was also a silver car with custom leather interior that had been tuned to 700 bhp that is no longer listed. Not sure if it sold or was withdrawn.

Yeh , i remember the Silver one , looked quite unique! also the Copperhead orange car has disappeared from sale recently (unless thats the one you are referring to being sent overseas!
In fact there are less cars than i thought available having check the classifieds again , 1 car is on their twice and that owner is clearly keen to sell , then there is SCR33M's car which has just gone on! Didinthink he was selling that afetr the stripes were added smile
Thats does not actually leave too many SRT-10's to choose from and in fact a nice varied selection between stock type , Mamba and coupe models all from £40 - 50k !

Hi,

Screem here, My plan was always to do this years cannonball8000 event which starts on Fri 14th September to Croatia in the Viper, but a couple of months ago i went to see an ultima GTR that somebody was selling not far from where i live for £55K and i really wanted it!!

I figured i could sell the viper for not much difference and buy the Ultima! I therefore put it on ph for £50k.
Got no takers so in my usual impulsive way i dropped the price to £45k for a "quick" sale.(even though i was already the cheapest 1 on their i think.

This seemed to drag the price down on all the SRT10s on PH and on Auto Trader so in hindsight was prob not a good idea but i really wanted the Ultima.
In the meantime the Ultima i wanted was sold to somebody else so i have now gone off the idea and decided to keep the Viper to take part in the cannonball event.

I still quite fancy the Ultima but am no longer in such a rush so have put the car back to £49,995 and will defo be keeping till at least the end of September and even then will not be in a rush to sell.

Ive left it there because if somebody is interested and Sept fits their timescale i dont want to lose out on a potential purchaser of which there are clearly not very many of.

The good news is that there are punters out there as I was made an offer of £40k yesterday by somebody who had not contacted me previously which i politely declined to accept. I dont know how much higher this offer would have gone because i also told the guy i would not even accept £45k at the moment. Although mainly because i have taken sponsorship money from people to do with the event and i dont think it would be fair to change the car at this late stage.

Hope this helps

Top and bottom of it is IMO that there are more cars than available punters at this time but i think this might well change.

Kinda in line with my thinking , at the mo there are a few cars out there and for varying reasons one or 2 sellers have been keen to sell quickly , dropped the price , many others , including dealers got the wobbles and thought 'mine wont sell now' and dropped prices too , its the usual domino effect especially on sites like here and autotrader! it will settle , no doubt on that in my mind!
