Stevie your 190.7mph put you 7th fastest, which gave you 4 points and put you 15 overall

if you had lost just 2/100's on the quarter you would of been if the shootout ! 'but racing is racing' wink

We arrived at Santapod early friday for the Mopar Nats, the track opened at 1pm first 1/4 run there was a problem, the AEM guage showed low boost around 8psi where 14 is the normal so Spud plugged in the laptop and did another run to record/datalog the entire run. The graph showed fluctuating amounts of psi, Spud thought this could only be S/C belt slippage so the airbox, paxton unit and other bits and peices was removed, pulleys cleaned and new belt fitted.

Thinking this should of solved the problem another logged run proved otherwise, after much head stratching and some testing the lack of boost was put down to the belt tensioner. By this time the track was closed so some testing down the return road showed Skunk was back to full health

Saturday morning Spud was sitting at the start line waiting for the track to open (10am) first run of the day, its hot the track is warm, Spud has his brand new sticky Hossiers on 17" rims, launch control set to 4000revs, the lights change green, bang...the diff emploded... Not having a spare Spud thought his weekend and trip upto Elvington for TOTB was over

10 minutes later Dr. Bob arrives, after a brief chat it turns out Baz has a stock diff sitting in his garage, so Spud and his paddy mates start removing the damaged diff off Skunk, Baz and i make the 2 hour trip fetching the diff and a stop to US Automotive to fetch the necessary fluids, and an emergency food stop at KFC. All is put back together, once again Skunk is health, we clear up for the trip upto Elvington. We were supposed to arrive by 4pm but the problems meant were late, 9.30pm the gates are locked.

7am sunday the gates open, Spud has been up since 5am preparing while Baz and i are still snoozing, we unload Skunk he's scrutineered, Spud signs in. 10.30am TOTB is finally underway, Spud is the 3rd car down the strip and puts in his only top speed run (one was all that was needed) of the day, Spud tells us it was a decent run the speedo was off the kmph clock, 203.7mph was the time this remains fastest all day although the Jun Skyline gets pretty close late in the afternoon

the autocross section of the event doesnt go as well as Spud would of hoped, first timed lap Skunk completes a lovely 360 degree spin, so back to the queue which was huge for another run, about an hour later the second run starts though Spud said during this he got lost amongst the thousand of cones trying to pick the course out

at the end of the afternoon timed 1/4 mile sessions a MR2 finished fastest in the rear wheel class Spud was second place, the fastest x4 in each class front, rear and 4 wheel drive then go into a shootout and race each other then the fastest from the other classes, in the rear wheel class this was Spud, x2 MR2's and a RX7.

The x2 MR2's were put against each other one won, the other knocked out, Spud raced the RX7 and beat it then should of faced the winning MR2, (for some reason the MR2 didnt make the start i heard there was a big puff of smoke as it crossed the finish line racing the other MR2) so Spud had a by and progessed into the next round to face the fastest front wheel drive.

Beating the front wheel drive winner he then faced Andy Forrest in the final whose 9 second Scooby was the fastest 4 wheel drive, Andy should of won the final really but it looked like this car jumped out of first gear as the lights changed, that little glitch was enough to hand the 1/4 shootout title to Joel

The whole TOTB winning day came down to some hard graft by Spud and the luck of the Irish that Baz had a diff, for which Joel will be no doubt be truly thankful

Thanks Neil. Glad to be able to say the weekend came out well in the end. At one point it seemed like it was just one problem after another, but we all pulled together as a great team, the enthusiasm was infectious, and nothing seemed to get in the way (except the cones on the handling course !) Thanks to Baz for producing the diff as if by magic and to Michael for pulling on the overalls and getting stuck in to help me change the diff. Heres to the next event and a great team beer
