French Viper owner needs help
Discussion
Hello everybody,
I live in Paris France and I imported a 2001 RT/10 last year from Florida.

I upgraded my rear end with a Quaife ATB along with 3,55 gears, and I'm looking for a hard to find (at least in France) transmission oil, some Silkolene silktran 75w90, as Quaife recommends it. I found some on E-bay but they're asking 22£ for shipping 2 liters! It's actually more expensive than the oil itself (10,5£ a liter).
Do you know a vendor with reasonable prices, or is 22£ a normal price for shipping 2kg across the channel.
Thanks for your help.

Hi and welcome,
It might be worth double checking with quaife about the oil for the viper application as vipers usually use a 75w140 to lube our rear ends whereas most other applications seem to use the 75w90 including the corvette which I understand in stock form has essentially the same diff as the viper (dana 44) other than the casing and cryogenically hardened gears in the viper.
Not sure about the cost of shipping to France but as I said the corvette uses a 75w90 synthetic lube in its rear end so it may be worth checking with a local GM/corvette dealer or even see if you can get the mopar stuff from a Chrysler dealer.

Hi Dave,
You are correct about using 75w140 in the stock differential. However with the quaife installed, you need a lighter oil, and they recommend the silkolene.
It's what I have right now, and I need an oil change.
If I can't do otherwise, I will look into Corvette dealerships. Thanks for the tip.

Ok I wasn’t sure if the heavier grade was viper specific due to airflow/cooling or something and where quaife would usually recommend a 75w90 for most apps may actually go higher on a viper.
If you really want silkolene you could try contacting these guys from the silkolene motorcycle web site( you never know), or get in touch with quaife themselves

Otherwise I doubt that the oil manufacturer is really that important so long as it’s a quality synthetic conforming to all the standards etc, there will always be some that will swear by one brand while others claim it trashed theirs, but then so far I have always stuck with the mopar.
I bet silkolene is only quiaif recommended because the MD’s play golf together or something, and the grade recommendation may have more to do with silkolene not doing a 75w140 grade. Hey ho ever suspicious
May be worth a post over on the VCA to see what others with the quaife are running and then see if any of them are available in France.

Hi there,
Just a thought, but have you tried Oreca? If I remember correctly they are trading as Dodge Motorsports Europe, and may well be able to find or get what you are looking for.

Good luck & all the best

Thanks everybody,
Opieoils are selling on E-bay, I didn't know they were active on this forum. They're a great source of information.
Anyway, I found out that I had about a liter left in old bottles, therefore I ordered 1 liter from RPM motorsports, that should cost me about 22 pounds.
Thanks to you, I have a lot of good adresses now.
