hi peeps.

Thinking of another car, always had the v8's. Can you tell me what the vipers are like in bends/tight corners at speed. Which are the best vipers to go for,I know that each loves their own motor but if I'm going to get one I would like to be armed with as much info as possible. Are they reliable and what service intervals are there.

Thanks. Jamie

13" rear tyres means there's loads of grip, the viper is a big heavy car so very tight cornering at speed is like other similar weighted cars. The road surface has a lot to do with it in this country tight bends usually means poor surface, bumpy country lanes which arent ideal for a viper, fast sweeping dual carraigeways bends is where the viper shines

for the best handling, go for the latest generation 3, as the viper has evolved the handling has got better

the car is very reliable, its not often even in the States you hear of one breaking.

service intervals and costs are just like a ford mondeo smile

Is it difficult importing from the states as it seems a very complicated process to get one to the u.k. Would'nt know where to start with it all. Out of the 2 models you mention which is the most wanted motor and what do you think I would have to pay for one all in including taxes from the states.

Do you like yellow?

I know of a UK reg, new MOT etc, low miles (11K) OE '01 GTS coming up for sale soon, well within your price range, 2001 and beyond have ABS which is a feature to go for (pre ABS had several brakes issues to do with brakes front/rear balance)! Just having nose repainted as it was involved in a light front end bump, and I took the repairs on (it was only cat-D insurance; but, price will reflect this). Have got the chassis alignments all checked out in a jig computer aided report (spot-on)...nice car, but not colour for me...it's very yelllllllllllllllllllllllllllow! The darkened windows look cool on it though!

I got my new, delivery milage Viper two years ago from the US - it's very simple:

Bought car on eBay (£38k) in St Louis.
Flew there to collect.
Drove to Miami on temp tag (issued by dealer), insurance around £150.
Dropped car off in Miami.
Collected from Southampton a while later. Drive home (still on temp tag)
Drove to specialist (who does ALL the paperwork, mods for UK). One phonecall.
Collect - and ready to go.

With today's exchange rate, you could likely get a NEW SRT-10, all taxes paid, for around £45,000 (mine cost just over £50,000 with shipping, VAT, free driving holiday across America etc)

just curious Jack, how do you get uk insurance to drive home when the car isn't uk registered (pre SVA)? (or did you manage to run it on US plates for a while under the temporary importation deal?)

you simply get insurance using your VIN number

I had it insured on the VIN number, so registration not needed.
