Thinking of buying a Viper - gimme the skinny/...
Discussion
Hey folks,
I'm thinking about buying a GTS over the next few weeks, and basically want as much information about ownership of the car as possible.
Questions include:
1) What's the *real world* fuel consumption like? I travel from Surrey to Middlesex every day in rush hour traffic - what will I see?
2) What are the servicing costs like?
3) How difficult are they to maintain?
4) Will driving it everyday destroy my will to live? Is the car nasty to drive in traffic?
5) Are the parts much more expensive than a C5 Vette?
6) Doing around 15K miles a year, will the Viper turn out reliable?
7) Are they "a handful", or are they relatively easy to drive (how similar to a C5)? I'm quite experienced with fast and American cars, but I don't wanna be fighting the thing all the time!
8) Are there any other problems, like the width of the car etc when it comes to parking etc?
9) Are the parts difficult to get hold of, or will places like American Carriage be able to sort me out quick, like?
Anything else I should know?
Thanks in advance for any info!

Dont know never measured it but, stop + hard start = not a lot, motorway constant 70-80 ok (for a viper)
2) What are the servicing costs like?
not bad, do it myself so 9l mobil1 and £4 for an oil filter, most things are just lube. tranny fluid can be a bit steep if you use the mopar synthetic.
3) How difficult are they to maintain?
easy, next
4) Will driving it everyday destroy my will to live? Is the car nasty to drive in traffic?
probably, bit heavier on the clutch than a c5, bit more bumpy and more pointy, no get out of jail free card with active handling etc don't try it in the snow....i did, wont try it again
5) Are the parts much more expensive than a C5 Vette?
generally no, don't dent it
6) Doing around 15K miles a year, will the Viper turn out reliable?
yep
7) Are they "a handful", or are they relatively easy to drive (how similar to a C5)? I'm quite

see 4

narrower than a vette..
9) Are the parts difficult to get hold of, or will places like American Carriage be able to sort me out quick, like?

All that from a guy that also drives a C5......
Tyres might be a bit steep on an everyday viper 335/35/18 are not that cheap..
There are plenty of every day vipers in the US with no probs,And some have 100k+ on them..

Not seen what I'm paying for c5 275/40ZR18 EMT GoodYear F1 GS's then. all 4 corners on the viper for the price of the rears on the vette.
Ok so there is a shortage of c5 rears at the mo and the viper tires were ex silverstone ones.
We have 5 vipers here in the showroom and have access to others that I have been offered recently.Let me know if you want a test drive.www.atlanticsportscars.com ask for James
